GOLDEN, Colo. -
Vladislav Kazakin's new pool record in the 500-freestyle highlighted a fast meet for the Colorado School of Mines men as they hosted Colorado Mesa on Saturday.
Kazakin was unchallenged in winning the 500-free, touching in a new pool-record 4:39.48, and he also took first in the 1,000-free in 9:51.44 while helping the 400-free relay win to end the day.
Colorado Mesa came out on top in the dual, 132-109.
Charlie Krone won the 200-free relay to make it an Oredigger sweep of the distance freestyle events, touching in 1:42.96, and
Lucas Hoke took second in both the longer distances behind Kazakin, timing 9:53.08 in the 1,000 and 4:50.15 in the 500. Krone would later win the 100-fly as well in 50.81, and
Jakson Winn had a 50.90 victory in the 100-back.
Both Mines 400-free relays finished ahead of Mesa's top two squads with Mines' "A" relay of Brendan Cook,
Dan Berke, Kazakin, and Winn touching in 3:07.04 led by Kazakin's 46.34 third-leg split, and the "B" relay of Krone,
Jackson Steider,
Cameron MacMillan, and
Jack Fulham timing 3:10.36 with Fulham clocking an unofficial anchor split of 46.78 to out-touch Mesa's entry by five-hundredths of a second.
In the morning diving session,
Bruno Albertoni was third in the 1-meter with a 293.33 six-dive series, and placed fourth on the 3-meter board with a score of 281.18.
CMU set a pair of new natatorium records as David Roethlisberger's 335.5 broke the 3-meter 6-dive mark, and Luka Samsonova won the 400-IM in 4:10.39.
The Orediggers will visit Wyoming next Saturday.
