GENTLEMEN, THANK YOU
Sunday afternoon, the Orediggers will honor their six seniors on this year's roster as part of Senior Day. Fifth-year man
Maxwell Stultz, junior college transfers
Caden Allaire,
Abou Bakar Berthe and
Simon Carricaburu along with
Tommy Jernigan and
Marc Levin will all be hanging up their boots at season's end after having helped lead Mines to 42 wins since 2021 along with two RMAC regular season titles and one tournament title.

WEEK EIGHT RECAP
Mines experienced just about everything in their final weekend on the road against Adams State and Fort Lewis. To start the trip, Thursday's match with ASU was postponed to Friday morning as a result of significant severe weather in Alamosa. Once action started roughly 19 hours later, Mines ceded an early goal to the Grizzlies before storming back for a 3-1 win.
Avi Levin scored his first goal to tie the match before
J McGill netted the game-winner with
Hudson Waddell also scoring his first goal to ice the game. Sunday in Durango, the Orediggers looked poised to earn a scoreless draw with the Skyhawks, but a missed PK midway through the second half saw a chance at the lead go by the wayside before the Skyhawks netted the game-winner with under a minute left in regulation to take the 1-0 result.
THE SKIPPER
With a record of 99-42-24 (.673) overall and 69-16-10 in RMAC action at the helm in Golden, skipper
Greg Mulholland has established himself as one of the top head coaches not just in Division II, but the NCAA as a whole. His career winning percentage ranks near the top among active Division II coaches with a minimum of five years of experience, and places him in the top 40 nationally across all divisions of the NCAA. An assistant with the Orediggers from 2007-2016 who served as interim head coach in 2017 before having the interim tag dropped in 2018, Mulholland ranks among the top 10 active Division II coaches with a minimum of five years on the job in winning percentage and is 15th across the entirety of NCAA Soccer. Under his direction, Mines has claimed a combined 11 regular season and postseason championships, running off six consecutive regular season crowns from 2017-22 and four tournament titles from 2017-20. Mulholland is also a four-time RMAC Coach of the Year and has twice headed up the United Soccer Coaches Regional Staff of the Year.

THE CAPTAINS
Prior to opening night against Azusa Pacific, the Orediggers announced their 2025 captains with two newcomers to the role and one returner.
Caden Allaire returns for his second run wearing the armband as he's joined by Luka Hanna and
Carter Jansen.

Allaire, a transfer from Casper College, heads into his senior season as the most experienced goalkeeper on the Mines roster. Over his first two seasons, he started 24 of 26 games he appeared in and registered 89 saves against 41 goals allowed in 2,135:58 between the pipes. For his career, he's netted six wins, four shutouts and has a .685 save rate to go with a 1.73 GAA.

Hanna, now in his third season with Mines after playing 2022 at Tulsa, appeared in 30 matches with 11 starts in his first two seasons, scoring a goal and taking seven shots in 1,272 minutes of action and enters this fall as a key figure in the Mines midfield.

Jansen, a third-year player who has been a fixture on the Mines backline since his arrival in Golden in 2023, appeared in 28 matches with 22 starts heading into his junior season and logged 1,828 minutes as an outside and center back.

IN THE POLLS
For the second season running, Mines was tabbed to finish fifth in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference men's soccer preseason coaches poll.

UCCS was voted the preseason favorite this fall with five of 11 first place votes followed by Fort Lewis in second with three and defending champion CSU Pueblo in third with two. Regis was just ahead of Mines in fourth while MSU Denver was picked to finish sixth to round out the projected playoff field.

Nationally the top five remained the same with little movement as Stanislaus State remained #1 followed by Charleston and Palm Beach Atlantic. Fort Hays State and Anderson exchanged fourth and fifth to round out the top five. Around the RMAC, CSU Pueblo dropped from the rankings but still earned votes along with MSU Denver while UCCS dropped from consideration entirely.

JOINING THE STAFF
A new face will be roaming the Mines bench in 2025 as
Ben Fredrickson joined the program in May as the program's top assistant coach. Prior to joining the Orediggers, Fredrickson served as Real Colorado's Assistant Academy Director and head coach of the organization's U16 MLS Next program. A well-traveled coach with experience at a variety of levels, the New Zealander is no stranger to the RMAC as he played collegiately at Regis from 2010-13. He also played in the United Soccer League's second division as well as New Zealand First Division club Team Wellington. Learn more about Coach Fredrickson
here.

Additionally, a former Oredigger All-American returns to the bench this season as
Lucas King makes his coaching debut at the collegiate level. A six-year member of the Mines program thanks to the 2020 pandemic, King was a three-time All-RMAC and All-Region selection from the United Soccer Coaches and D2 CCA as well. He started 84 times in 91 matches in his five seasons of action and logged 62 points on 13 goals and 36 assists, the second-most in program history. 12 of King's assists came in the fall 2021 season, as that mark is the third-best in a season all-time.

CHECKING THE STANDINGS
Heading into the final weekend of the regular season with each team having either two or three more matches on their schedules, UCCS leads the standings with 19 points and a mark of 6-1-1. MSU Denver is second is 5-1-1 with 16 points followed by Colorado Mesa in third at 4-1-2 with 14 points. CSU Pueblo is fourth with 12 points at 3-2-3 while Westminster and Regis are 3-2-2 with 11 points each and hold the final two postseason positions. Fort Lewis and Colorado Christian are the first teams out at 2-2-2 with eight points followed by Mines in ninth at 2-5 and six points. South Dakota Mines is 10th at 1-6-1 and four points with Adams State still looking to get on the board at 0-7-0.

LEAGUE LEADERS
Entering the final weekend of the regular season, a handful of Orediggers can find their names atop the RMAC statistical leaderboards.
Kiernan DiBella leads the league in saves this fall with 61 and is second in save percentage at .709.
Lucas Taitt meanwhile is third with five assists in his debut season. Freshman
Leo Santana is also on the cusp of breaking into top 10 in points this season with eight.

FIRST TIME FINDING THE NET
Two more Orediggers put their name in the books this season when it comes to goal scoring, as
Avi Levin and
Hudson Waddell each netted the first goals of their seasons and their careers. They become the sixth and seventh players for Mines to score for the first time this season, joining
Noah Roles,
Lucas Taitt,
Brady Scheinfeld,
J McGill and
Leo Santana. Considering all seven of those players are either in their first or second year with the program, the future looks bright despite the challenges this season has presented.

CHECKING THE STATS
A pair of freshmen lead the Orediggers in scoring as
Leo Santana, who started off the season strong, and
J McGill who has done all his damage almost exclusively in league play, lead the clubhouse. Santana is the top point man with eight as he also has two assists.
Kian Mueller,
Charlie Newberry,
Abou Bakar Berthe and
Brady Scheinfeld all have two goals each while
Lucas Taitt,
Avi Levin,
Marc Levin,

SCOUTING CSU PUEBLO
The ThunderWolves played a pair of 3-2 matches over the weekend and came out with split results, dropping a Thursday night decision to MSU Denver before rebounding with a win over Colorado Christian Sunday.

Despite the loss of their head coach and brining back fewer than 10 players from last year's national semifinal team, the ThunderWolves have posted a strong second half of the season after starting the season with seven draws in their first 11 matches.

12 players have scored for The Pack in 2025 led by Nick Cenek with nine, six of which have come in the last four matches. He also leads the team with 22 points thanks to four assists to go along with his goal scoring. So Nagano is second on the club with seven goals while Matty Parkes has four. Will Boyle and Jamal Bynum have three apiece ahead of Mohammad Shahabodien with two. Five more ThunderWolves have one goal each.

Against 115 shots faced in that time, he had made 37 saves against 13 goals allowed for a 1.14 GAA and a .740 save rate. Tristan Whitlock, one of just a handful of returners from last year, has started twice in four matches for 221:39 and made three saves against two goals allowed in facing 12 shots for a 0.81 GAA and .600 save percentage. He has a 1-0-1 record with one solo shutout and has combined with Gonzalez for another two. Gabe Selby rounds out the group with one start in two outings for 97:55 and like Whitlock, has allowed two goals and made three saves for a 1.84 GAA and a .600 save rate. He started Sunday against CCU and played the full 90 as he recorded his first stats of the season.

As a team, CSU Pueblo is +18 in goal differential at 35-17 and averages 2.33 goals on 11.8 shots per match while allowing 1.13 goals on 9.2 shots to the opposition. They have 32 assists on their 35 goals and have combined for 43 saves defensively. The Pack have taken 50 corner kicks and are 1-1 from the spot. They have been whistled for 172 fouls, assessed 53 yellow cards (which ranks second in Division II) and four red cards. 20 different players have been assessed cautions this season for CSU Pueblo with two players and a coach being ejected.

SCOUTING UCCS
After opening RMAC play with four straight wins, UCCS dropped a 3-1 decision on the road at Fort Lewis on October 16. In three matches since, they are 2-0-1 with 5-0 and 3-0 wins over Adams State and MSU Denver with a 1-1 draw against UCCS in the middle. The Mountain Lions currently lead the standings heading into their only action of the weekend Sunday in Golden.

Miles Seminario and Nick Walker are 1-2 in goals for the Mountain Lions with eight and seven respectively and account for more than half of the team's scoring between them. Cole Wearner is the only other player with multiple goals, having scored twice this fall, while a further 10 players have all scored once.

Jack Cook meanwhile leads the team in assists with three. Along with Seminario and Walker, Eduardo Macias and Charlie Dennis each have two assists while nine players have a single assist including goalie Hugo Sjöberg.

Speaking of Sjöberg, he's been the only man in goal this fall for UCCS, starting all 16 matches for 1,400 minutes with a record of 8-4-4 with five shutouts. Against 184 shots, he's made 37 saves against 17 goals allowed for a 1.06 GAA and .685 save percentage.

As a unit, the Mountain Lions are +10 in scoring margin at 27-17 and average 1.69 goals on 14.1 shots per match while allowing 1.06 goals on 11.5 shots to the opposition. They have 22 assists on their 27 goals and have combined for 38 saves. UCCS is 5-5 on PKs this fall and has taken 96 corner kicks.
