REGIONAL POD RECAP
Mines produced impressive results during the RMAC Regional Pod. The Orediggers started with a five-set victory against Colorado Christian at Lockridge Arena last Tuesday. The victory snapped CCU's eight-match win streak.
Amanda Donais Dudley hammered out 18 kills on .533,
Francesca Nuzzo produced 19 digs, and the trio of
Naomi Romslo, Cadenc McDonald, and
Abbie O'Shay combined for 35 kills. O'Shay and
Jenna McLaughlin managed six blocks apiece as well. On Friday, Mines started its Homecoming Weekend by shocking then-#8 MSU Denver in straight sets at Volk Gym. The upset was fueled by Donais Dudley's 11-kill, 13-dig double-double with five total blocks and 13 kills off the hand of Nuzzo. It marked the Orediggers' first win against MSU Denver since the 2021 RMAC Tournament championship match.
RMAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Despite leading the conference in attack percentage last week,
Amanda Donais Dudley was instead honored for her defensive prowess in the regional pod. On Monday, the conference office announced Donais Dudley as the RMAC Defensive Player of the Week which marked the first weekly award of Donais Dudley's collegiate career. She earned the accolade after stacking up 10 total blocks across eight sets of action for an average of 1.25 blocks per set. Her 10 stuffs tied for the most in the RMAC last week and her average was tied for #3. The Ramona, Calif., native bolstered her resume with 15 digs, 29 kills on .563 hitting, and one service ace.
SCOUTING CSU PUEBLO
The Colorado State University Pueblo volleyball team knocked off Colorado Christian in four sets on Tuesday to extend its win streak to seven. With that win, CSU Pueblo welcomes Mines to town boasting a record of 11-4 (5-0 RMAC). The ThunderWolves haven't lost since falling at Lubbock Christian, 3-1, on Sept. 13. Their seven-match win streak includes 3-0 wins against Regis, Chadron State, Black Hills State, and Regis again. Five-set thrillers at South Dakota Mines and against UCCS also went to the ThunderWolves. There was also the four-set affair earlier this week. The Pack is led by first-year head lady Jordan Bruere who is also an alum. She came to Pueblo from RMAC foe Western Colorado after former head coach Austin Albers went to another RMAC foe in Colorado Mesa following the departure of long-time skipper Dave Fleming. All that being said, Bruere's squad is led by Caelyn Gunn who ranks #7 in the nation in kills per set and attacks per set, and #12 in the nation in total attacks, and #13 in total kills. Her numbers include 232 kills at an average of 4.38 kills per set while hitting .247. Setter Elena Stankovic averages 9.40 assists per set. On defense, Megan Mattingly touts 213 digs while Golden Finch owns 49 total blocks.
OREDIGGERS AGAINST THE THUNDERWOLVES
Mines and CSU Pueblo last played on Oct. 25, 2024. The match was in Golden, and the Orediggers were victorious in four sets.
Hannah Kinnison provided Mines 20 kills on .529 hitting.
Hope Storm pumped out 40 assists.
Allison Jansen added four service aces and five total blocks. Also notable were six blocks by
Morgan McChesney. The victory improved the Orediggers to 35-44 in the all-time series against The Pack. Mines is 7-3 in its last 10 meetings with CSU Pueblo.
SCOUTING COLORADO CHRISTIAN
Colorado Christian faced Mines just last week as part of the RMAC Regional Pod. The Cougars fell at the hands of the Orediggers in a five-set thriller and saw their eight-match win streak come to an end. Since then, CCU has dropped into a three-match skid after losing to #8 MSU Denver in straight sets and then to CSU Pueblo in four sets on Tuesday. Colorado Christian's record is now 9-6 (4-1 RMAC). Connelly Kilgore and Renee Phillips are CCU's top two hitters. Kilgore owns 180 kills at 3.33 kills per set. Phillips has 145 kills and a .357 attack percentage. Krista Traynor boasts 9.28 assists per set. Kristina House averages 4.06 digs per set. At the net, Phillips' 53 total blocks lead the way for the Cougars.
OREDIGGERS AGAINST THE COUGARS
As noted above, Mines and Colorado Christian already played once this season. It was last week. The Orediggers won, 3-2. With the win, Mines improved to 44-27 in the all-time series against CCU. The victory also snapped a brief, three-match skid after the Cougars won all three meetings in 2024. Three of the Orediggers' last four wins over CCU have come in five sets.
SHE'S BAAAAAACK
Amanda Donais Dudley played for the Mines from 2018-21 and was an all-American as a senior. She finished her bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and graduated in the spring of 2022. However, Donais Dudley still had a year of college eligibility remaining due to the COVID-19 pandemic. So, when she decided to come back to Mines for a master's degree in mechanical engineering, she decided to play some more volleyball. The 2025 season will be Donais Dudley's final collegiate campaign, and with 12 matches remaining in the regular season, her career numbers include 1,039 kills, 848 digs, 207 blocks, 102 service aces, and 97 assists.
STANDING IN THE HALL OF FAME
Five-time all-American Danielle Johnson-Hazlewood was announced as a member of the Mines Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2025 over the summer. She was officially enshrined on Oct. 4. One of the most decorated players in Mines volleyball history, Johnson-Hazlewood is one of an elite few Orediggers in any sport to have been a four-year RMAC champion. She led Mines to the conference regular-season titles in 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015. Johnson-Hazlewood also helped the Orediggers win the RMAC Tournament title as a senior in 2015. AT THE HELM
Head Coach
Jamie Magalei is in her 18th season leading the Mines volleyball program. She is easily the program's all-time leader in total wins and win percentage at 374-142 (.724). Magalei surpassed 300 career wins in 2021. She's one of six to reach the milestone while coaching in the RMAC. Her resume also includes three Regional Players of the Year, two Regional Freshmen of the Year, and 16 RMAC major award winners. Magalei has guided Mines to six RMAC regular-season championships, and five RMAC Tournament titles with 13 consecutive NCAA tournament appearances from 2009-22 (no NCAA tournament in 2020).
