DENVER, Colo. – The Colorado School of Mines volleyball team closed its regular-season slate Saturday afternoon with a straight-set victory against Regis.
Abbie O'Shay was the start of the show, leading all players with 12 kills on .550 hitting with five total blocks.
Jenna McLaughlin added eight kills on .500 hitting and notched two blocks.
Cadence McDonald matched O'Shay's production in blocks and had six kills as well.
Jada Price walked away boasting 12 digs.
Hailee Martinez coordinated the winning effort at setter with 31 assists and nine digs. Price,
Avery Perreira,
Francesca Nuzzo, and McLaughlin each recorded one service ace apiece.
Mines (20-6, 10-4 RMAC) casually converted at .255 on the attack and held Regis (4-22, 3-11 RMAC) to a negative hitting percentage. The Orediggers finished with advantages in nearly every statistical category including points, kills, aces, blocks, assists, and digs. With the victory, Mines closes the regular season touting 10 wins in its last 11 outings. The result of the match between CSU Pueblo and Fort Lewis will lock-in the Orediggers' seeding for the RMAC tournament – likely at #4 and hosting a quarterfinal match.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Mines recorded all four of its service aces in the opening set. That production offset a sub-.200 attack percentage and helped the Orediggers to a 25-17 victory with zero ties and zero lead changes. Mines needed zero blocks to keep Regis at negative .038 on the attack. O'Shay,
Naomi Romslo, and McLaughlin tallied three kills each. The second set had one tie, but the Rangers were sub-zero on offense again while O'Shay powered out four more kills. Five Oredigger blocks and five digs or more from three Mines players aided the winning, 25-12 effort. A strong finish by the visitors in the third frame featured five error-free kills off the hand of O'Shay, four more from McLaughlin and a team attack percentage of .385. Regis did hit .107 as a team, but still suffered the sweep after a 25-17 margin ended the match.
