Day Two Results

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Mines swimming & diving broke three more program records while posting numerous personal records and NCAA-qualifying times on the second day of the TYR/CMU Invitational hosted by Colorado Mesa.

The record-breaking performances came from both the men's and women's 200-freestyle relays and Cameryn Schmidt in the women's 50-free. Kaya Flaherty, Jordan Tierney, Schmidt, and Jennifer Pierson were the Oredigger quartet on the women's relay which finished in a time of 1:34.42. It broke the previous record set at last year's conference meet by just .17 seconds while giving Mines a fourth-place finish in the event. The men's quartet featured Brenden Cook, Jakson Winn, Dan Berke, and Jack Fulham. They posted a combined pace of 1:20.40 which was .55 seconds faster than the previous record set during the 2021-22 season. Schmidt's 50-free record came in the evening finals as she blazed to a NCAA "B" time of 23.41 and bested Annie Osmun's 23.54 from the 2024 conference meet.

Thursday morning's prelims were massively successful for Mines as nearly every single Oredigger who competed advanced to the evening finals. Charlie Krone's and Vladislav Kazakin's 500-free prelims were NCAA "B" cuts, as was Flaherty's 50-free prelim time. At noon, Bruno Albertoni took to the diving board and completed a successful 1-meter, 11-dive sequence. His performance in prelims brought the freshman to finals where he finished sixth and officially punched his ticket to the NCAA-qualifying diving meet in March.

In addition to the program records, the evening session brought additional highlights for the Oredigger men and women. Kazakin won the men's 500-free while he and Krone added two more NCAA times. Anna Bream flew to silver in the women's 200-IM with her own NCAA "B" cut of 2:03.73. Schmidt, Flaherty, and Pierson went 3-4-5 in the women's 50-free. Finally, Lucas Hoke pushed out his own NCAA time in the 500-free thanks to a solo time-trial performance.
