COLORADO SPRINGS - Max Barnes' big day in leading Colorado School of Mines to victory has earned him the RMAC Offensive Player of the Week award, presented by Genesee Nutrition.
Barnes paced a potent Oredigger offense in their 48-21 win over New Mexico Highlands, accounting for 172 rushing yards and 185 total yards while scoring a 44-yard touchdown in the first quarter. He averaged a huge 11.5 yards per carry and tallied seven first downs plus the touchdown on 18 total touches of the ball.
After missing the first half of the season, Barnes has exploded over the past four games for 492 yards and three touchdowns on the ground, averaging 123 yards per game and 9.1 yards per carry.
It is Barnes' first career honor, and he the fourth different Oredigger to win an RMAC weekly award this season, joining
Landon Walker (Week 2 Offensive),
Joseph Capra (Week 4 and 7 Offensive), and
Lucas LeSieur (Week 2 Specialist).
Mines (6-3, 4-3 RMAC) plays their home finale Saturday hosting #6/7 CSU Pueblo at noon.
