WEEK NINE RECAP
Mines posted two more wins to extend their streak to three over the weekend as they went on the road to blank New Mexico Highlands 3-0 before finishing regular season action unbeaten at home Sunday with a 3-1 win over Adams State. Friday in Las Vegas, Bella Campos and Afton Rasco stole the show, combining for three goals and three assists as the Campos scored the first and third goals with help from Rasco before the roles reversed on the second goal. Allie Lundgren and Emma Thomas each made three saves in goal as they combined for the shutout. Sunday against the Grizzlies, Gaby Guerrero, Natalie Rouse and Campos all scored while Kaitlyn Manalili added two assists to tie her All-RMAC worthy mark from last fall.

AT THE HELM
2025 marks the 16th season leading Mines for boss Kevin Fickes, the program's winningest head coach. With a career mark of 256-44-42 (.810), he ranks sixth in all of the NCAA and third in Division II among head coaches with at least five years of experience when it comes to winning percentage. One of two RMAC coaches with 200 career victories, under his direction Mines has overseen 39 All-America selections, 19 Academic All-America selections, 87 all-conference honorees and 32 RMAC major award winners. Fickes has also guided Mines to seven RMAC regular season titles and 10 RMAC Tournament crowns and made 16 consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances.

THE CAPTAINS
After having the same trio of captains for each of the last two seasons, a new group will be wearing the "C" for the Orediggers in 2025 as Callie Fuhr, Natalie Rouse and Bella Campos will lead the way this fall.

Fuhr, a fixture on the Orediggers' back line since 2022, has started 53 consecutive matches going back to October of her debut season and enters this fall with seven career points thanks to a goal and five assists. Across 67 matches in her career, she's clocked more than 5,250 minutes and in 2024 led the team with 2,064 minutes of action.

Rouse, the 2023 RMAC Defensive Player of the Year in her debut season in Golden, returns to action in 2025 after missing the final 21 matches of 2024 due to injury and will lineup alongside Fuhr to anchor the Mines defense at center back. The former All-America selection has started all of the 24 career matches in her career as an Oredigger and owns seven goals and an assist for 15 points in more than 2,100 minutes of action.

Campos, the latest prolific striker to come through Mines, already sports her name in the program record books in numerous places. The 2023 RMAC Freshman of the Year and 2024 RMAC Co-Player of the Year as well as a two-time All-American, Campos looks to step into a larger role in 2025 as an everyday starter. Despite just making 16 starts in her first 45 career matches, Campos has been a prolific producer on offense regardless of her role with 30 goals and 11 assists for 71 points in just over 2,100 minutes played.

A veteran and experienced group that has plenty of RMAC and NCAA Tournament experience, this trio will look to make an impact as leaders of the program heading into this fall.

IN THE POLLS
In the RMAC preseason coaches poll released in early August, the Orediggers were picked to repeat as league champions behind nine first place ballots of the 13 head coaches in the league. UCCS earned three first place ballots and was picked second with Colorado Mesa, MSU Denver and Fort Lewis rounding out the top five.

Nationally, Mines remained seventh in this week's United Soccer Coaches Top 25. This week's rankings saw the most stability of the season with just two changes in the top 14. Dallas Baptist remains the top team in the country followed by Minnesota State, Catawba, Cal Poly Pomona while West Florida usurped Grand Valley State this week for fifth.

Around the RMAC, UCCS remained at #14 for the third week in a row while Colorado Mesa dropped three spots to 23rd. Fort Lewis entered the national conversation this week as they received votes.

CHECKING THE STANDINGS
A quick reminder: because of a no-contest between Fort Lewis and Colorado Mesa, the regular season champion and postseason seeding will be determined based on a points per match average.

Six teams are already locked into this year's RMAC Women's Soccer Championship, but seeding and the regular season crown are still up for grabs. Colorado Mesa and Mines are 1-2 with 2.60 PPM and 2.54 PPM respectively behind records of 8-0-2 and 9-1-1. Mines clinches the title with a result better than Colorado Mesa, while the Mavericks retain first with an equal or better result than the Orediggers. UCCS and Fort Lewis are in a battle for third with 2.25 and 2.20 PPM and records of 8-1-3 and 7-2-1 as the Skyhawks have a chance to jump ahead with the Mountain Lions idle Wednesday.

Regis and Westminster are currently fifth and sixth at 1.64 and 1.54 PPM and records of 5-3-3 and 4-2-5. Westminster hosts Colorado Mesa in the final match of the regular season with a 6:30 p.m. kickoff, meaning the Orediggers will be paying attention to that match on their way home from Pueblo. Speaking of Pueblo, CSUP and Adams State currently hold the final two spots in the eight-team field for the postseason. The ThunderWolves are 3-5-3 with a 1.09 PPM heading into Wednesday against Mines while Adams State is 3-6-2 with a 1.00 PPM as they square off with New Mexico Highlands.

MSU Denver and Western Colorado are the first two teams out at 2-5-4 and a 0.91 PPM as they look to keep their hopes alive as they take on Colorado Christian and FLC respectively. CCU, Black Hills State and NMHU meanwhile have all been eliminated from postseason contention and will end their seasons Wednesday.

LEAGUE LEADERS
To the surprise of few, Bella Campos remains one of the top goal scorers in the RMAC this fall and after last weekend, now reigns supreme atop the leaderboard in goals with 15, breaking a tie for first with Abby Stassi of UCCS and will finish the regular season as the leader in goals with the Mountain Lions idle Wednesday. That duo are the only players in the RMAC with double figure goals in 2025. Campos also leads the league in points at 34, three ahead of Stassi as they too are the only players with 30+ points this fall.

Afton Rasco leads the RMAC in assists with nine, two ahead of Elise Broberg of UCCS. Kaitlyn Manalili meanwhile is tied for third with Tay Levi of UCCS and Fernanda Rodriguez of Regis.

After last weekend, Campos also now finds herself tied for the league lead in game-winning goals with four other players while Natalie Rouse and Lindsay Jeans also find their names among the league leaders.

In goal, Allie Lundgren is fifth in GAA at 0.78 and is now up to fourth with 57 saves while her five shutouts are tied for fifth as well.

ON THE SPOT
Penalty kicks aren't necessarily a regular occurrence over the course of a season, but they also aren't necessarily a rarity either. This fall, Mines has made a living on earning PKs and converting them, going 7-7 from the spot this season. That's a new single-season record for the most PKs, breaking the previous mark of five set back in 2008. In addition, the seven PKs awarded are now tied for the most in a season, following up last year's season. To top it off, the Orediggers now lead Division II in penalties this fall and are among the leaders from the spot across all levels of the NCAA.

MILESTONE WIN
Back on October 17, Mines' win over Colorado Christian was another milestone mark in the legendary career of Orediggers head coach Kevin Fickes. Nearly four years to the day of his 200th career win, the Mines skipper banked #250 at the same venue against the same opponent thanks to a 1-0 win over Colorado Christian at Trailblazer Stadium in Lakewood. Over his first 15 seasons, the Orediggers have averaged better than 16 wins per season under Fickes' direction and have won at least 11 matches in 15 of those seasons (Mines went 7-0-3 in the COVID-shortened spring 2021 season). On pace to put up similar numbers this season, Fickes and the Orediggers will look to continue handling their business as they now set their sights on the second half of the 2025 regular season and the postseason.

MAKING THEIR MARK
Several active Orediggers are making their mark on the program's record books this season as they continue their careers. Most recently, Allie Lundgren became just the seventh goalkeeper in program history to record 100 career saves, doing so at MSU Denver on October 12. Entering this weekend, she stands at 122 in her career and trails Sierra Roth (2018-21) by four for fourth all-time. Lundgren is also now sixth in career shutouts with 15, and is two back of Zumbro for a top five spot in that category as well. Meanwhile, her 0.64 goals against average also ranks sixth.

Sadie Wolf's mark of 0.58 GAA puts her ahead of Lundgren in fifth while her 87 saves rank eighth all-time and 18 shutouts are good for fourth.

Bella Campos meanwhile continues to pile up the goals and the points. Friday at New Mexico Highlands, she became the fifth player in program history to surpass 100 career points and stands at 105 through 61 matches. She's also rapidly approaching 50 goals with 45 as she looks to become the fourth player in program history to reach that mark. Campos is also knocking on the door to the top 10 in assists with 15, trailing Reese McDermott by five. Additionally, her 12 game-winners have her one back of fourth all-time and Megan Woodworth (2009-12). Campos currently ranks tied for third among active players in Division II and tied for 20th across all levels of the NCAA with 45 career goals.

Afton Rasco and Kaitlyn Manalili are also looking to further pen their name into the program records when it comes to assists with 17 and 15 respectively, while Rasco recently broke into the top 10 all-time in points and is currently tied for eighth with Jennifer Kendall (2015-18) with 53.

CHECKING THE STATS
Bella Campos remains the teams leader in goals and now stands alone atop the RMAC this fall with 15 and along with her four assists, has 34 points. Natalie Rouse is now second on the team in scoring with four goals while Afton Rasco has three and a team-leading nine assists. Gaby Guerrero, Lindsay Jeans, Callie Fuhr and Annelise Rojo have each scored twice while Natalie Mezarina and Caelan DeBolt round out the scoring with one goal each.

Behind Rasco when it comes to assists is Kaitlyn Manalili who has now matched her career-high of six assists from last season. Behind Campos' four, Anna Gessner has two while Guerrero, Jeans, Mezarina and Jordan Bowermaster all have one.

In goal, Allie Lundgren has started all 16 matches this fall for 1,276:07 and faced 194 shots. In that time, she's made 57 saves against 11 goals allowed for an .838 save rate and a 0.78 GAA on her way to a 12-2-2 record and five shutouts. Emma Thomas has seen more action down the stretch and now appeared five times for 163:53 and allowed one goal with 10 saves against 23 shots for a .909 save rate and a 0.55 GAA. She and Lundgren have combined for an additional three shutouts this fall.

On the season, Mines has outscored teams 32-12 and averages 2.00 goals on 13.0 shots per match while allowing 0.75 goals on 13.5 shots. They have 25 assists on their 32 goals and have combined for 68 saves in goal. Mines is 7-7 from the spot and taken 71 corner kicks. They have been whistled for 92 fouls and issued three yellow cards.

SCOUTING CSU PUEBLO
After second-year head coach John Constable turned over nearly his entire roster from last fall, CSU Pueblo returned just 10 squad members while welcoming 22 freshmen. That recipe has the ThunderWolves in contention for a playoff spot heading into the final day of the regular season.

Playing at home has been a challenge for The Pack this fall, as they've gone 0-5-3 at Art and Lorraine Gonzales Stadium this fall and picked up all four of their wins on the road. One of those wins was a 4-2 result at New Mexico Highlands Sunday that snapped a four-match losing streak, all of which were shutouts and three of which came at home.

Seven players have scored this season for CSUP with returner Carlia Johnson leading the way with three goals. Corin Viamille, Jenna Elledge, Caytlynn Garland and Abby Menk have all scored twice while Cameron Farthing and Kenna Snyder round out the scoring with one goal each.

Johnson and Mackenzie Fryxell are tied for the team lead in assists with two while Viamille, Farthing, Maya Bethelmie, Mara Ganje and Katie Peterson all have one assist.

Of the six goalies on roster this fall, two have seen action as the freshman duo of Alva Hellenius and Miya Begay have handle netminding duties. Hellenius has seen the lion's share of action, starting 12 times in 13 matches for 1,014:06 and facing 146 shots. In that time, she has made 53 saves and allowed 15 goals for a .779 save percentage and a 1.33 GAA with a record of 3-5-4 and three solo shutouts. Begay has started four times in eight appearances for 425:54 and against 73 shots, has made 24 saves against eight goals for a .750 save rate and a 1.69 GAA on her way to a record of 1-2-1 with one shutout. The pair have combined for a fifth shutout as well.

Overall, CSU Pueblo is -9 in scoring this season at 23-14 and averages 0.88 goals on just 7.3 shots per match while opponents average 1.44 goals on 14.3 shots. That have nine assists on their 14 goals and have combined for 78 saves. They are 2-2 from the spot this fall and taken 41 corner kicks. CSUP has been whistled for 98 fouls and assessed nine yellow cards.

SERIES HISTORY
Mines is 19-8-5 all-time against the ThunderWolves, but have historically found Pueblo a tricky place to play with a mark of 7-5-1 as the road team. The Oredigger posted a 2-0 win last fall over The Pack in Golden but played to a 1-1 draw in their last trip south in 2023. Over the last 10 meetings going back to 2017, Mines is 7-0-3 and 2-0-1 in Pueblo. Mines last lost to CSU Pueblo back in the 2016 season by a score of 2-0 in Pueblo.

UP NEXT
The 2025 RMAC Women's Soccer Championship awaits the Orediggers. Mines can finish now worse than second in the standings and will either be #1 or #2 seed in the this year's edition of the tournament. Should Mines be the #2 seed, they will play the winner of the play-in match between the #7 and #8 seeds on Sunday November 9 at Stermole Stadium. Times for all matches will be announced once the tournament bracket is finalized.
