GOLDEN, Colo. – Efficient dominance guided the Mines volleyball team to a 3-0 victory against Black Hills State Friday evening at Lockridge Arena as the Orediggers also celebrated Parent Night.
Jenna McLaughlin highlighted the efficient dominance with 12 kills on 24 attempts and just one attack error for a .458 attack percentage. She added one block and one dig too.
Cadence McDonald knocked down 10 kills while hitting .471 with one block on the right side.
Amanda Donais Dudley had four error-free kills with a .800 attack percentage in just one set of action while contributing four digs and a service ace. Furthermore,
Hailee Martinez,
Naomi Romslo, and
Morgan McChesney combined for 16 kills with individual hitting marks well over .300. On defense,
Jada Price and
Francesca Nuzzo combined for 25 digs. McChesney posted four total blocks. Rounding out the highlights were two aces by Romslo and 41 assists from Martinez.
Mines (18-5, 8-3 RMAC) owned large advantages in nearly every statistical facet. The Orediggers' biggest advantage was a team attack percentage of .394. Black Hills State (6-17, 2-9 RMAC) hit just .106 despite both teams producing five blocks apiece. Mines recorded 47 kills on 46 assists compared to 23 kills and 21 assists by the Yellow Jackets. The Orediggers also had 50 digs while BHSU only had 38. Seven aces for the home team compared to three by the visitors proved useful in the victory. No Yellow Jacket had more than seven kills in the match. The set scores Friday night were 25-14, 25-10, and 25-21. With the win, Mines moved into a tie for third in the RMAC standings and a tie for the second-best record in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
A celebration of the Oredigger parents was tied into the starting lineups. After that, it was all business and all Mines. The home team cruised to a 25-14, set-one victory thanks to .500 hitting and just two attack errors. McLaughlin put down five kills in the frame and Martinez notched 17 assists. Set two started with nine Oredigger kills on nine attempts. Mines didn't look back. Seven kills off the hand of McDonald helped close out a 25-10 decision as the Orediggers hit .600 as a team after committing zero attack errors. All five of Black Hills State's blocks came in the final frame which dropped the home attack percentage. However, Price's seven digs and three kills apiece by McDonald and
Francesca Nuzzo helped clinch the sweep.
