Basart, Wyman Top RMAC’s All-Academic XC Teams

RMAC All-Academic Teams – Men | Women
 
COLORADO SPRINGS – Margaux Basart and Cody Wyman were both voted RMAC Academic Runner of the Year for women's and men's cross country, respectively, as Mines led the way on the conference's all-academic teams.
 
Basart becomes a two-time RMAC Academic Runner of the Year in cross country. Wyman's RMAC Academic Runner of the Year award marks the fifth consecutive year an Oredigger has claimed the honor. Duncan Fuehne claimed the accolade from 2021-23 and Loic Scomparin won it in 2024. Furthermore, Basart, Lexi Herr, Emily LaMena, and Grace Strongman were recognized as RMAC First-Team All-Academic on the women's side. Jacob Schwarting, Jeremiah Vaille, and Wyman earned RMAC First-Team All-Academic distinction for the Oredigger men. Overall, including the RMAC Academic Honor Roll, Mines' men and women combined for 27 academic honorees. No men's team or women's team had more RMAC First-Team All-Academic selections and only UCCS had more total accolades.
 
The RMAC First-Team All-Academic rosters were voted on by the league's communications professionals on the merits of individual, cumulative grade-point averages of 3.50, or better, and their performance on the course. Basart and Wyman brought home the top honor as the #1 vote-getters. Criteria for the RMAC Academic Honor Roll provide student-athletes have completed two consecutive semesters at their current institution and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or better, among other requirements. Daniel Appleford, James Beam, Brock Drengenberg, Zach Dykstra, Daniel Falk, Cole Fiorillo, Connor Graves, Dawson Gunn, Garrett Mackey, Matt Mettler, Rowan Nicholas, Andreas O'Malley, Julian Ryter, Braden Struhs, and Chandler Wilburn made the RMAC Academic Honor Roll for the Oredigger men. Maria Forster, Angela Friedman, Haley Hilderbrant, Katie Price, and Kara Tokubo represented Mines' women on the RMAC Academic Honor Roll.
 
Basart, last voted RMAC Academic Runner of the Year for cross country in 2023, added to an impressive 2025 resume with her latest award. The graduate student finished 35th in the nation at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships in Kenosha, Wis., for USTFCCCA All-America honors as the Oredigger women were national runners-up – an all-time program best. She was also First-Team All-RMAC after finishing seventh at the conference championships which the Mines women won for the first time in program history. The Iowan was also the RMAC Summit Award winner. Basart's other appearances in 2025 included bronze at the Lucian Rosa Invitational on the national course and a 29th-place finish at the South Central Region Championships. Last spring, Basart earned a bachelor's degree from Mines in engineering physics while maintaining an unblemished 4.00 GPA. She's currently working on a master's degree in quantum engineering, also with a 4.00 GPA. Overall, Basart is a three-time RMAC First-Team All-Academic selection.
 
Wyman won RMAC Academic Runner of the Year in his first season of eligibility for the award and just his second year with Mines. During his first campaign running in a Mines uniform, the redshirt freshman was USTFCCCA All-Region, RMAC Freshman of the Year, Second-Team All-RMAC, and RMAC Freshman of the Meet. Furthermore, he was the second-fastest freshman in the field at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships in Kenosha, Wis., where he crossed the line 51st in the nation. Wyman's collegiate debut was a 42nd-place finish at the Lucian Rosa Invitational on the national course. He also took sixth at the FHSU Tiger Open in Hays, Kan. His Second-Team All-RMAC and RMAC Freshman of the Meet nods came after finishing 20th at the conference championship – the fastest freshman in the field. The Lake George, Colo., native was all-region thanks to a 12th-place pace at the South Central Regional Championships in Pueblo, Colo. In the classroom, Wyman studies metallurgical & materials engineering while boasting a 3.96 GPA.
 
Mines' five other RMAC First-Team All-Academic selections all raced at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships. Herr was a USTFCCCA All-American thanks to a ninth-place national finish. She touts a 4.00 GPA as a master's candidate in geophysical engineering after posting a 3.87 GPA while obtaining her bachelor's degree from Mines in geophysical engineering. LaMena, a 4.00 student in geophysical engineering was a USTFCCCA All-American too by way of a seventh-place finish. Strongman, also a USTFCCCA All-American, became the highest-finishing Oredigger woman ever as national runner-up. She posted a 3.99 GPA on the way to a bachelor's degree in metallurgical & materials engineering and touts a 3.70 GPA while pursuing a master's degree in the same discipline. Schwarting, a redshirt freshman, ran in his first-ever NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships and finished 80th in the nation and fourth among freshman in the race – all while maintaining a 3.73 GPA in electrical engineering. Vaille placed 71st in the nation and is working on his third degree at Mines. He earned a bachelor's degree in civil engineering with a 3.73 GPA and touts a 3.97 GPA after earning a master's degree in civil engineering while pursuing a second master's degree in engineering & technology management.
 
The cross country season ended in November at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships in Kenosha, Wis. Mines' women made history by finishing second in the nation and the men were third in the nation. That marked 10 straight years the men had finished third or better at the national meet. The Oredigger distance runners have transitioned to indoor track & field season. Their next scheduled action is the Potts Invitational at the University of Colorado Jan. 16-17.
