HAYS, Kan. - Colorado School of Mines had a great day at the Bob Smith Open at Fort Hays State on Sunday, with three wrestlers going unbeaten on the mat in the tournament.
Numerous Orediggers had terrific performances before calling it a day due to match limits, led by
Timber Parlin, who won four straight bouts at 184 pounds - three by fall - to make the final before withdrawing in second place.
Xander Sweeney and
Ryan Dugan went 3-0 at 125, as Sweeney earned a pair of technical falls before edging Noah Gurule of New Mexico Highlands 6-4 and Dugan racked up two pins and a 6-2 win over Nebraska-Kearney's Jacob Fox. The two withdrew before facing each other in the semifinals.
Ben Fanelli went 4-1 at 149 before hitting his match limit, all of them decisions, while Marco Caro (157),
Marco Romero (125), and
Nico Farinola (133) had 2-2 days.
Deringer Hollenbeck (157) and
Yahir Chairez-Salazar (149) went 1-2, and
Gunner Samora (125) was 0-2 on the day.
The Orediggers will break for finals and return to close 2025 on Dec. 20 hosting the Jack Hancock Duals at Volk Gym.
