MIDWEEK SPLIT
There are four games left to play in the regular season. The Colorado School of Mines Women's Basketball team is tied for #8 in the RMAC standings. That makes the margin for error is minimal if the Orediggers hope to make the postseason. With that in mind, Mines' penultimate week of the regular season features one road game at MSU Denver on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. followed by the Orediggers' home finale on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. against Regis. Both games will be key in determining postseason potential and seeding
BIG THURSDAY NIGHT
Thursday's showdown with Regis will be a must-attend event for all Oredigger fans. The evening features Mines' annual Rock the Lock which will include numerous, massive giveaways in an effort to pack the stands. Furthermore, the evening will be Senior Night for both the Oredigger men and women. Mines' women will celebrate its senior class at halftime of the men's basketball game (think 8:30 p.m.). The men typically recognize their departing veterans prior to tipoff at 7:30 p.m. With tons of celebration and festivities, fans should plan to arrive early and stay the whole evening.

MEET THE SENIORS
A trio of Orediggers will be honored for their collegiate careers on Thursday evening.
Josephine Howery,
Olivia Lee, and
Jessica Rios make up the senior group. Howery has been with the team for five years and her career numbers include 940 points, 396 rebounds, 237 assists, 160 steals, and 35 blocks. Her assists currently rank #10 in the program record book and her 106 three-pointers are #12. Lee, for her final collegiate season, joined her sister Michaela as an Oredigger. After stops at Western New Mexico and Cal State San Bernardino, the elder Lee boasts 493 points, 425 rebounds, 64 blocks, 39 assists, and 25 steals. Rios arrived at Mines by way of NCAA Division I Sacramento State. For her entire career she owns 609 points, 275 rebounds, 119 assists, 78 steals and eight blocks. She also appears in the program record book twice for her prowess as a long-range shooter.
SUCCESSFUL HOMESTAND
Last week, Mines hosted Black Hills State on Thursday night and Chadron State on Saturday afternoon. The Orediggers finished the weekend with two wins. Thursday's 51-49 victory against BHSU snapped a three-game skid for Mines and it came down to the wire.
Jade Leon played the hero by making an acrobatic layup with 0.4 seconds on the clock.
Jenna Siebert defended the final inbounds pass to seal the win.
Emma Sixta and Siebert combined to score 25 points. Siebert also dished out four assists, grabbed five rebounds, and had three steals.
Audrey Beaty pulled down seven rebounds as well. Saturday's contest played out in opposite fashion as Mines routed CSC, 87-57. Siebert was the star with a program-record 40 points. She bolstered that performance with four rebounds, four assists, one block, and one steal. Beaty and
Peyton Freiermuth combined for 22 points to round out the highlights.
HISTORY FOR SIEBERT
As stated above,
Jenna Siebert broke the program's single-game scoring record by exploding for 40 points against Chadron State. She accomplished the feat without attempting a free throw, shooting 6-of-11 from three-point range and 17-of-29 from the floor. The previous record was shared by Taylor Helbig and Denali Pinto. Helbig scored 38 against McMurry during the 2014-15 season. Pinto tallied 38 against Fort Lewis in 2021-22. It marked Siebert's fifth game of the season, and her career, with 30 points or more which also ties the program record. The only other players in the history of Mines women's basketball to score at least 30 points in a game five times in their respective careers were
Ashley Steffeck and Denali Pinto who are #1 and #2 in career scoring for the Orediggers. It adds to a long list of season accomplishments by Siebert which will be highlighted below.
JENNA SIEBERT
This section serves as a high-level summary of
Jenna Siebert's historic accomplishments during the 2024-25 season. Through 24 games, Siebert has scored a total of 480 points. That ranks #4 in the Mines record book. She's five points shy of #3, 98 points away from #2, and 104 points from breaking the record. Siebert's scoring has largely come from 177 made field goals which also ranks #4 in the program record book. She's had five games of 30 points or more. No other Oredigger woman has more than five games of 30 points or more. Additionally, the Valor Christian graduate boasts 127 made three-pointers in her time at Mines, ranking #9 in Oredigger history. Her 52 three-pointers in 2024-25 are #14 in the record book. Finally, with four games to play in this season and one full season of eligibility remaining, Siebert touts 931 career points. There's probably more, but that covers most of it.
Jenna Siebert – pretty good at basketball.
DISHING DIMES
Josephine Howery and
Peyton Freiermuth have both put their names in the program record book this season as well. Freiermuth did it after handing out 11 assists against defending national champion Minnesota State. She became the sixth Oredigger to ever dish out double-digit dimes in a single game. Freiermuth's performance tied her with Laura Tyree for third on Mines' all-time list. The only Orediggers with more assists than Freiermuth in a single game are Liz Holter and Debbie Gangloff. For Howery, it's been the long game. She moved up to #10 on Mines' all-time assists list. Howery has handed out 237 helpers which pushed her past Mariss Eichhorn (1998-02). Cathy Dingwall is #9 with 243 from 1982-86.
RMAC ROUNDUP
Very little has been decided in regards to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Women's Basketball standings, champion, or postseason. After four co-champions were crowned in 2023-24, this season is equally ambiguous. What we do know is that Colorado Mesa has officially clinched a spot in the eight-team RMAC tournament. We also know that Fort Lewis has been mathematically eliminated from the postseason. Mines is tied for #8 and currently holds the tiebreaker over Regis for the final spot in the bracket. That could all change Thursday. Additionally, the top-six teams in the standings as of Monday are all within four games of each other with four games left to play. So there it is, clear as mud.
SCOUTING MSU DENVER
Metropolitan State University Denver's women are 6-18 overall and 5-11 in RMAC play. That puts the Roadrunners on the outside looking in at the conference postseason. However, they are within reach of a berth, making MSU Denver extremely dangerous. That being said, the Roadrunners are currently on a seven-game losing streak which started with a 71-63 loss to Mines in late January. Most recently, MSUD fell at home to Chadron State and South Dakota Mines. Those two losses were decided by a total of 14 points. The Roadrunners did defeat Colorado Christian, UCCS, and Regis near the start of conference play. As a team, MSU Denver suffers from a negative scoring margin of 8.8, a negative rebound margin of 8.5. The Roadrunners do have a positive turnover margin at 1.0. Mikylah Espinosa is the team's top performer, averaging 14.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.7 steals, and 2.2 assists per game. However, she has not played since the loss to the Orediggers. Navaeh Millard does average 10.0 points per game.
OREDIGGERS AGAINST THE ROADRUNNERS
The all-time series between Mines and MSU Denver sits at 55-35 in favor of the Roadrunners. Recent history has gone to the Orediggers. They own six straight wins over the Roadrunners including the 71-63 decision earlier this season in Golden.
Jenna Siebert scored 31 points in that victory and
Emma Sixta scored 14. Siebert also notched six steals and grabbed five rebounds.
Audrey Beaty pulled down 10 rebounds as well. Mines' last loss to MSU Denver was Feb. 4, 2022, in overtime at the Auraria Event Center. It marks the Roadrunners only win in the last 10 meetings.
SCOUTING REGIS
Defending RMAC Champion Regis had high hopes for the 2024-25 season. Now, the Rangers are battling just to get into the conference tournament. They are 10-13 overall and 8-8 in RMAC play, sitting in a tie with Mines. Last week, RU narrowly defeated South Dakota Mines in Denver, 66-63. The Rangers fell to Black Hills State on Saturday, 67-59. Erin Fry and Athena Saragoza are Regis' most recognizable and notable players. Fry's averages come out to 17.9 points, 5.6 assists, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.2 steals per game. She's #11 in the nation in assists per game and #2 in minutes per game. Saragoza puts up 17.8 points per game thanks to 71 made three-pointers so far this season. Nobody in NCAA Division II averages more made three-pointers per game than Saragoza. Also notable are Fiona Snashall's 10.1 points and 8.1 rebounds per game.
OREDIGGERS AGAINST THE RANGERS
Earlier this season, Mines defeated Regis by a score of 60-49 at Regis Field House. It snapped the Orediggers' three-game skid against the Rangers which dated back to the 2022-23 season. Siebert poured in 27 points, tallied seven rebounds, handed out five assists, and notched one steal to get the victory. Even so, RU still leads the all-time series 56-30. But Mines is 7-3 in its last 10 meetings with Regis.
SISTER-SISTER
The Orediggers' 2024-25 roster features sisters
Michaela Lee and
Olivia Lee. Michaela is in her second season at Mines. As a true freshman, she came off the bench and scored six points, grabbed eight rebounds, blocked four shots, and grabbed two steals in just 28 total minutes of action. Olivia is in her first, and only, season as an Oredigger. She started her collegiate career at Western New Mexico before transferring to Cal State San Bernardino after two seasons. The elder Lee completed her bachelor's degree at CSUSB and came to Mines to pursue a master's degree and play her final season of collegiate basketball. Prior to becoming an Oredigger, Olivia accumulated 462 points, 391 rebounds, 61 blocks, 35 assists, and 21 steals across 81 games.
MEET TAYLOR HARRIS
The Mines coaching staff added a fresh face last spring with
Taylor Harris taking over as assistant coach for the Orediggers. Harris, a 14-year veteran coach, came to the Orediggers after leading Fort Lewis' women's squad for three seasons. Other stops for the Colorado native include Miles Community College (Mont.), and 10 years of service at fellow RMAC programs in Regis and MSU Denver. Fans can check out Harris' full biography
HERE.
BOSS LADY
Head Coach
Brittany Simpson is in her 13th season leading the Mines women's basketball program. During her decade-plus tenure, she has become the winningest coach in program history both in terms of total wins and win percentage at 229-137 (62.5). Simpson is responsible for all three of the program's RMAC titles including regular-season championships in 2015-16, 2020-21, and 2021-22. She has also led the Orediggers in five of their six trips to the NCAA tournament. Simpson is a three-time RMAC Coach of the Year who has guided 36 All-RMAC selections including 15 first-teamers, 11 second-teamers, one third-team selection and nine honorable mention performers. She has also coached one RMAC Player of the Year, two RMAC Defensive Players of the Year, and two RMAC Freshman of the Year award winners. Eight of Mines' 13 1,000-point scorers have surpassed the milestone under Simpson's watch.
