Seven From Men’s Basketball Named To RMAC Academic Honor Roll

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference announced its 2024-25 academic honors Wednesday as seven members of the Colorado School of Mines men's basketball team were named to the RMAC Academic Honor Roll for their accomplishments in the classroom.
 
Juani Dassie, Majok Deng, Dom Girish, Reagan Koch, Adam Krasovec, Silas McCurnin and Markus Pastorcic-Straun were all named to the Academic Honor Roll this season with Girish and Koch earning the honor for the second and third times in their career respectively.
 
Dassie, a Mechanical Engineering major with a 3.646 GPA, has been one of the most prolific three-point shooters in the RMAC since his arrival last season. The Mines single-season three-point percentage record holder for his .506 performance last season, the Córdoba, Argentina native has appeared in 29 games this season, shooting .470 from the floor and .421 from three with a career highs in rebounds (38), assists (19), steals (12) and blocks (8) while averaging 6.3 PPG. He tied his career-high of 20 points on November 9 this season against St. Mary's (TX) and has eight double figure scoring games this season.
 
Deng, the RMAC Player of the Year, First Team All-RMAC selection and RMAC Tournament Most Valuable Player, is working towards a graduate degree in Natural Resources & Energy policy with a 3.38 GPA. The second-year graduate transfer from Pepperdine has led the Orediggers in scoring for most of the season, checking in at 14.9 PPG while posting a line of .465/.372/.885 and has set new career-high marks with 122 rebounds, 28 steals and seven blocks. 20 times this season he scored in double figures with nine 20-point performances. Deng's season-high of 33 came on home against Adams State on February 1 and saw him go 9-14 from the floor, 4-7 from three and 11-11 at the free throw line.
 
Girish is working towards a Mechanical Engineering degree and currently carries a 3.467 GPA. In his second season of action, the third-year sophomore has appeared in 13 games off the bench, scoring in four of those contests and collected three rebounds while dishing out two assists and pocketing a steal. He logged a season-high 11 minutes on January 4 against Northern New Mexico.
 
Koch, soon to be a two-time Mines graduate as he works toward a Master's in Engineering and Technology Management after completing a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering, is enjoying the finest season of his career in 2024-25. Appearing in all 31 games this season with a pair of starts to his credit, the fourth-year junior is shooting .500/.500/.821 this season with 41 of his 67 field goals being of the three-point variety. In addition to the best shooting season across the board in his three seasons of action, Koch has also posted career-best marks in minutes per game (17.1), rebounds (91) and scoring with 207 points for an average of 6.7 per game. Eight times this season he scored in double figures with his best performance coming on November 26 against UCCS when he went for 13 on 4-7 shooting with four assists, four rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot.
 
Krasovec, a Computer Science major with a 3.30 GPA, has started once in 27 games this season and has shot .500/.400/.800 with 67 rebounds, 37 assists, 13 steals and 10 assists this season as part of the Mines second unit. The 2021-22 RMAC Freshman of the Year, Krasovec is averaging 5.3 PPG this season with four double figure scoring performances. His two best games came in succession at South Dakota Mines and at home against CSU Pueblo on January 11 and 16, scoring 14 in both contests on a combined 10-16 shooting as he also went 5-7 from the three-point line.
 
McCurnin is majoring in Civil Engineering and holds a 3.673 GPA has appeared in 15 games during his first season of action after redshirting in the 2023-24 campaign. He scored the first points of his career at UT Dallas on November 16 and has three rebounds along with an assist to his line this season.
 
Pastorcic-Straun, a Second Team All-RMAC selection and member of the RMAC All-Tournament team, is working toward a Biochemistry degree with a 3.38 GPA. A breakout star this season who spearheaded the Orediggers' second unit, Pastorcic-Straun has appeared in all 31 games with three starts and is averaging 10.8 PPG while shooting .520 from the floor and rankings among the team leaders in assists with 84 and steals with 33, both of which are career-best marks. 17 times this season he went for double figures with his best performance coming against #3 West Liberty at the Holiday Hoops Classic in Las Vegas when he dropped 24 on 10-11 shooting. The Ontario native also had a streak of seven consecutive games with at least 12 points from January 16-February 1 that included three straight 15-point performances against Colorado Christian, MSU Denver and Regis.
