INDIANAPOLIS – Another record-breaking, all-America swim from
Vladislav Kazakin on Friday was the highlight for the nationally-ranked Colorado School of Mines Swimming teams at the 2025 NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships.
Â
Kazakin broke the program's unadjusted record in prelims by swimming 4:22.34. He entered the evening session seeded seventh and eventually finished #7 in the nation with another record-breaking time of 4:22.27. Both races featured a fast start from the true freshman who almost broke the program record in the 200-free as well. The performance makes Kazakin the first Oredigger man to climb two national podiums in the same meet since 2005. He also finished #7 in the nation in the 1000-free on Wednesday. The last man from Mines to appear on two NCAA podiums was Travis Kummer who was sixth in the 100-breast, seventh in the 200-IM, and seventh in the 200-breast. Kazakin's performances also gave the Orediggers 12 more points in the team standings. Mines' men now sit 23rd in the team standings.
Â
Additional Oredigger performances on Friday came from
Isabella Bono,
Ronan Lauinger, and
Jordan Tierney. Bono raced the women's 500-free and posted a 5:05.00. That was good enough for #44 in the country and the second-fastest 500-free of her career. Lauinger joined Kazakin in the men's 500-free and touched the wall at 4:35.26 to finish #39 in the nation. Tierny's 1:03.17 in the 100-breast placed her #28 in the country.
