Orediggers Win Six Events In Outdoor Opener

PUEBLO, Colo.
- Colorado School of Mines got the outdoor season in full swing Saturday as they wrapped up competition at the Dr. Dan Caprioglio Invitational at CSU Pueblo. 

Athletes had to battle extremely windy conditions in Pueblo as Mines worked through sprints, middle distance, and field events on Saturday. Mines won six events as Kitt Rupar was a double winner in the throws circle, Everett Delate and Lisa Sutherland took their respective hurdle races, and Mines swept the pole vault thanks to Aidan Bennett and Dale Thompson.

MEN'S MEET
Only a week after taking the NCAA 60m hurdles silver medal, Everett Delate highlighted Mines' day on the track, running a wind-aided 14.21 110m hurdles to open his outdoor campaign with the event win. Nick Stade ran 15.69 for 13th under legal wind with Vaughn Hafner 27th in 16.93 and Jake Lafore 31st in 21.61. Elijah Quinby was Mines' lone 400m hurdler and ran 54.48 for fifth. 

Jathan Busby made his 100m debut with a 13th-place 10.79 time, putting him seventh on the program all-time top-10 list with the fastest Mines time since 2018; Tegan Daughters clocked in 18th at 10.83, also debuting on the top-10 list in eighth, while Spencer Cedrun was 40th in 11.22 seconds. Busby later led Mines in the 200m with a ninth-place 21.97, with Liam Currie 14th in 22.11, Daughters 21st in 22.27, Mark Leoni 26th in 22.53, Austin Schmidt 36th in 22.97, Cedrun 42nd in 23.11, and Prince Owusu-Ansah 52nd in 23.46; all of those times were wind-aided on the blustery day.

Currie ran a sixth-place 49.50 to lead six Orediggers in the 400m, with Logan Meade 14th (50.59), Ollie Sehr 19th (50.86), Leoni 20th (50.87), Schmidt 30th (52.57), and Owusu-Ansah 32nd (52.86). Owen Schneider was ninth in the 800m in 1:58.30 with Aiden Bram 19th (2:02.72). 

Aidan Bennett won the men's pole vault competition with an NCAA-provisional 4.85m bar in challenging conditions, and Shane Conley was fourth over 4.70m with Kai Miller seventh at 4.40m. Stade cleared 1.80m for sixth in the high jump as Mines' lone entrant.

It was a good day for the men's throwers with multiple personal-bests on the board. In the men's shot put, Franklin Rambo was Mines' top finisher with a fourth-place mark of 16.29m, his outdoor best, while Keaton Reiman threw his all-venues best of 14.59m for sixth and Hayden Swim was a spot behind at 14.53m. Holden Murphy was 11th (14.24m) and Cade Whish 17th (13.61m). Murphy would also take second in the discus marking 49.03m, the new #4 performer in Mines history, while Rambo hit a collegiate-best 45.10m for fifth and Whish a PR of 43.24m for ninth. Hafner finished 24th at 38.40m and Lafore 27th with a best of 36.92m.

WOMEN'S MEET
The 100m hurdles duo of Lisa Sutherland and Avery Wright highlighted the Oredigger women on the track as they went 1-2 in the event. Sutherland blazed to a big personal-best of 14.60 seconds - the new co-#2 performance in program history - to win while Wright was second in a personal-best 14.63 seconds as both were under legal wind. Sutherland's time marked Mines' fastest 100m hurdles run since 2007. 

Maya Evans ran 12.85 seconds into a headwind for 18th in the 100m dash, also also recorded a 14th-place 25.95 in the 200m; both times rank in the program all-time top-10. Lisa Sutherland ran a wind-aided 27.02 for 31st in the 200m. Aani Hardesty was Mines' lone 400m hurdler finishing ninth in 1:05.77.

Dale Thompson won the women's pole vault with an NCAA-provisional 3.85m best bar, and Taylor Hindman's 3.60m was good for fourth. Arbella Chen tied for seventh at 3.30m and Madeline Obuchowski was 10th at the same height. Jaysen Eaton was 14th in the women's high jump getting over 1.40m.

Kitt Rupar won both the shot put and discus to lead the throwers' day. In the shot put, Rupar marked 13.76m to win by more than a meter over the field. Wright threw 11.35m for seventh and Jennifer Jarnagin was 12th at 10.79m with Sutherland 19th at 10.25m and Audrey Ott 32nd with a 7.26m throw. In the discus, Rupar tossed an NCAA-provisional 45.80m to win by nearly three meters as Ott's 37.91m was good for 16th and Abbi Gillespie placed 29th at 32.37m.

Mines is slated to head back to Pueblo next weekend for the Chuck Haering Invitational.
