Five From Softball Named CSC Academic All-District

GOLDEN, Colo. – The College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced its Academic All-District teams for softball Tuesday and saw five members of the Colorado School of Mines softball program recognized for their efforts in the classroom as Kendall Aragon, Cassidy Chvatal, Kat Miller, Taylor Wayne and Allison Westbrook were among those recognized at the Division II level.
 
The 2025 Academic All-District Softball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Student-athletes who meet both athletic and academic standards laid out by the CSC Academic All-America Core Committee will be selected to advance to the Academic All-America ballot.
 
Aragon, a First Team Academic All-RMAC selection this season, repeats CSC Academic All-District honors in 2025. The junior from Thornton graduated earlier this month with a Chemical Engineering degree and a 3.89 GPA following a season in which she was named Second Team All-RMAC. Aragon had a career-best season at the plate in 2025 and led the Orediggers in several offensive categories as she posted the first .400 season of her time in Golden. She batted .409/.454/.508 with 16 doubles, four triples, two home runs, 38 RBI and 43 runs scored. Aragon also stole 12 bases and was tied for fourth in the RMAC in doubles and continues to rank third all-time at Mines in career batting average at .396 (203-512) and ranks eighth all-time in career hits.
 
Chvatal, also a First Team Academic All-RMAC selection this spring earns honors from CSC for the first time in her career.. The senior from Broomfield also graduated this May with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and posted a 3.67 GPA along the way as she recorded one of the single-greatest offensive seasons in Mines history. A Second Team All-RMAC selection this spring, Chvatal led all of NCAA Division II in home runs through the end of the regular season and ranked fifth nationally in runs batted in. She posted a line of .354/.460/.814 and finished second the team in batting average while posting seven doubles, two triples, 21 home runs, 65 RBI and 43 runs scored in addition to a team-leading 33 walks. Chvatal homered against nine of 11 RMAC opponents in 2025 and ended her career ranked third in home runs (31) and slugging percentage (.688) while ranking third in single-season walks and fifth in total bases (131).
 
Miller was an RMAC Academic Honor Roll selection in 2025 and earns CSC Academic All-District laurels for the second time in her career. The junior from Coppell, Texas finished her third year studying Quantitative Biosciences & Engineering with a 3.97 GPA. Miller turned in career highs across the board in the circle this spring, starting 16 times in 27 appearances and posting a record of 8-11 with a save and a 5.84 ERA with 54 strikeouts in 118.2 innings of work.
 
Wayne, also an RMAC Academic Honor Roll recipient this spring, earns her first academic honors from CSC and graduated in May with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and a 3.87 GPA. She plans to return to Mines in the fall to begin graduate studies. After missing all of 2024 with injury, Wayne returned to action this spring and also made 27 appearances in the circle with 16 starts while also seeing action in right field at season's end. She went 7-9 with a save when toeing the slab with a 6.98 ERA and 57 strikeouts over 120 innings pitched to lead the team in the latter two categories.
 
Westbrook also graduated in May with a Mechanical Engineering degree and a 3.87 GPA she too also earned RMAC Academic Honor Roll laurels and first-time recognition from CSC. The Loveland native closed out her three-year career in Golden with 10 starts in 23 appearances in the circle and posting a 4-7 record with 34 strikeouts in 58.1 innings of work. She recorded a career-high in strikeouts in 2025 and on the final day of the season, struck out a single-game best nine batters in game one of a doubleheader with New Mexico Highlands before delivering an RBI double in the first at bat of her career in the season finale.
 
Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced June 17.
