GOLDEN, Colo. – Colorado School of Mines head men's soccer coach Greg Mulholland has announced that Ben Fredrickson will be joining the Orediggers ahead of the 2025 season as the program's top assistant coach.
 
A native of New Zealand, Fredrickson joins the Orediggers following a stint as Real Colorado's Assistant Academy Director and head coach of the U16 MLS Next Academy Team. Prior to his return to Colorado, he spent time in numerous roles with Tennessee Soccer Club from 2022 to mid-2024 as the Video Analysis Director, ECNL Head Coach and Assistant ECNL Director. As head coach, he led TSC to a seven-place improvement in the standings from 2022-23 to 2023-24, winning the Southeast Conference overall and Western Division titles. The team ended the season falling the final eight of the national tournament.
 
Fredrickson also spent three seasons with Albion SC Las Vegas, where he was an MLS Next Assistant Coach, U14 Elite Academy Coach and club-wide Video Analysis Director. At Michigan Stars FC, he served as an Assistant Coach and Video Analyst where he handled scouting reports for staff and players as well handling in-game live analysis.
 
Prior to coaching at the club and professional levels, Fredrickson logged six years of experience at the collegiate level, getting his start in 2014 as an assistant with Division I Buffalo where he worked with eight All-MAC selections and one MLS draft pick. The following season he moved to Mobile, Alabama for the first of two stints with Spring Hill College, the first from 2015-17 and the second from 2018-19. In between his time at Spring Hill, Fredrickson also spent a season with Division I Duquesne University.
 
During his five seasons with the Badgers, SHC attained a #9 ranking in the USC Top 25 and swept the Gulf South titles in 2018, going 17-2-0 overall and 11-0-0 in conference play. That year, Spring Hill, in just their second full season of NCAA Division II membership, recorded the most wins in program history, the first unbeaten conference season in program history and the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance. In 2018, Fredrickson also helped oversee GSC Freshman of the Year Cyril Giraud, United Soccer Coaches All-American Alex Lipinski and CSC (then CoSIDA) Google Cloud Academic All-American Player of the Year, Tilman Schober.
 
No stranger to the RMAC, Fredrickson played just down I-70 at Regis from 2010-13, appearing in 65 matches and making 42 starts with seven goals and 11 assists for 25 points in his career. He burst onto the scene as a freshman, scoring four goals with six assists helping lead the Rangers to their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance and a final ranking of #18 at season's end. During his four years with Regis, the Rangers made two more NCAA appearances in 2012 and in 2013, advancing to the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight in each of those seasons respectively. A perennial Top 25 program during his career, Fredrickson helped RU achieve the program's first-ever #1 ranking in the United Soccer Coaches (then NSCAA) Top 25 during the 2012 season.
 
Beyond his career at Regis, Fredrickson also played in the United Soccer League's second division and played for New Zealand First Division club Team Wellington. At the junior level, he also earned a trio of international caps played for the New Zealand Secondary Schools U19 National Team.
 
Fredrickson graduated from Regis 2014 with a Bachelor of Health Science in Sport and Exercise before going onto complete a Master's of Arts in Leadership and Ethics during his time at Spring Hill in 2017 before also undertaking a second graduate degree at SHC in Educational Theory.
 
Fredrickson holds numerous licenses and certificates on the coaching side, having completed both his UEFA 'B' and 'C' licenses and will soon earn his 'A' Senior and Elite Youth 'A' licenses I the fall of 2025. He has also earned National, Advanced National and Premier diplomas from the United Soccer Coaches and holds an Intro to Scouting credential from the PFSA and is working towards a Post Match Performance Analysis Certificate from the APFA.
