MINES OPENS FALL IN WYOMING
The new college golf season is here and Colorado School of Mines is set to open their fall schedule in northern Wyoming with the Travis Roy Memorial Invite at Powder Horn GC. The two-day tournament will see Mines get an early look at most of their RMAC competition in a locale that's new to the Orediggers.
THE TOURNAMENT
The Travis Roy Memorial Invite is an 11-team tournament hosted by South Dakota Mines. The field include #8 Colorado Christian and #13 St. Mary's, along with three other teams - Colorado Mesa, CSU Pueblo, and Mines - that received votes in the Bushnell/Golfweek Preseason Top 25 poll. The tournament's format is 36 holes over two rounds with 10 a.m. Monday and 9 a.m. Tuesday starts
THE FORECAST
Monday is looking perfect for golf with a high of 74 under mostly sunny skies and diminishing winds through the day, and Tuesday will top out in the upper 60s as play should conclude before late-day showers.
THE COURSE
Located in northern Wyoming near the Montana border, Powder Horn has 27 holes in a picturesque setting at the base of the Bighorn Mountains. Opened in 1997, the course is rated as Golfweek's #1 course in the state, playing 6,934 yards at par 72.
IN THE POLLS
Mines was picked in a tie for second in the RMAC preseason coaches' poll, tied with CSU Pueblo just behind Colorado Mesa while receiving a pair of first-place votes. Mines is also receiving votes in the preseason GCAA Bushnell/Golfweek Top 25.
