Orediggers Power Past N.M. Highlands

GOLDEN, Colo. - Everything worked for Colorado School of Mines in their second conference match of the weekend, defeating New Mexico Highlands 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-19) on Saturday at Lockridge Arena.

The Orediggers were led by double-doubles from Francesa Nuzzo (10 kills, 11 digs) and Hailee Martinez (29 assists, 11 digs) while Amanda Donais Dudley racked up 14 digs, three blocks, and five kills. Mines (9-3, 2-2 RMAC) held the Cowgirls (4-8, 0-4 RMAC) to .154 hitting for the match including a zero percent clip in the runaway first set.

Nuzzo and Jenna McLaughlin powered Mines' offense as Nuzzo hit .350 and McLaughlin .333 with 10 kills from the middle. Jaylee Gonzales starred for NMHU with 11 kills. 

Mines had little trouble through the first two sets, rocketing out to an 18-6 lead on the way to a 25-14 finish, and then cruising 25-18 in the second. The third set was more challenging as the Cowgirls led at 14-12 and then tied it 16-16 before six straight Oredigger points - including three of Nuzzo's 10 kills - made it a 22-16 set on the way to winning 25-19.

NOTABLES
- Mines leads the all-time series with NMHU 36-29.
- The Orediggers hit .246 for the match topped by a .333 first set. Mines got frontline contributions from all directions with Abbie O'Shay (8 kills, .400) and Naomi Romslo (7 kills, .238) adding to the offensive punch. 
- Serving was a key for Mines with eight aces, led by Avery Perreira's three. NMHU had nine service errors to only one ace.
- Jada Price added eight digs with two aces.
- Mines Head Coach Jamie Magalei is now 372-142 in her 18th season at the helm.
