Baldessari Powers Orediggers Past Colorado Christian

LAKEWOOD, Colo. Sofia Baldessari had another massive performance for the Colorado School of Mines women's basketball team Saturday afternoon as the Orediggers

Baldessari posted a 30-point, 14-rebound double-double, leading all scorers and rebounders in the game. Her scoring came from 10 made field goals and a 10-for-11 mark at the free-throw line. She added three assists as well. Jenna Shandy and Jade Leon also scored in double figures with a combined 25 points. Overall, six individuals for the visitors each registered multiple assists. Jordon Heckert was the top scorer for the home team thanks to 27 points.

With the victory, Mines (11-8, 6-2 RMAC) extended its win streak to seven and remained tied for fourth in the conference standings. Colorado Christian (4-12, 1-7 RMAC) only committed nine turnovers, compared to 14 by the Orediggers. However, Mines' defense held the Cougars under 40-percent shooting from the floor and allowed just five made three-pointers by CCU. The Orediggers finished the game shooting over 44 percent from the floor with 22 free throws on 27 opportunities and seven made three pointers. They also out-rebounded the Cougars, 40-36.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Saturday's matinee featured two ties and eight lead changes. They all took place in the first quarter as Baldessari's nine points and five rebounds helped Mines take an 18-17 lead after 10 minutes of play. Lindsey Jones carried the proverbial baton in the second quarter with six points fueling a 21-13 margin which pushed the Orediggers further ahead of CCU. Baldessari came out of halftime and poured in nine more points and grabbed six rebounds in the third quarter. The game headed into the final 10 minutes with Mines touting a 60-48 advantage.
