GOLDEN, Colo. – The Colorado School of Mines women's basketball team rolled to a 100-49 victory against Northern New Mexico Saturday afternoon at Lockridge Arena.
Sofia Baldessari led all players with 25 points. She grabbed seven rebounds and notched one assist with one steal as well.
Jade Leon scored 14 points with five steals, five rebounds, and a blocked shot.
Emma Sixta tallied 13 points, handed out four assists, and grabbed a pair of steals and rebounds.
Jenna Shandy and
Olivia Campbell notched 10 points apiece and Shandy added six assists.
Quincey Baum was also notable after providing eight rebounds, eight assists, three blocks, and three steals.
Emily Thomas pushed out four assists too.
Sophia Baal's final line featured nine points, five rebounds, two blocks, and two steals. The leading scorer for the visitors was GG Romero with 14 points.
Mines (7-8) shot 52 percent as a team and limited Northern New Mexico (5-10) to a 30-percent clip from the floor. The Orediggers also out-rebounded the Eagles, 46-33, while forcing 25 turnovers and committing just 11 of their own. Mines turned those 25 turnovers into 34 points. The home team blocked seven shots as well, winning every statistical category in the box score.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Northern New Mexico scored first and kept the game close in the opening quarter, holding a narrow, 14-13 lead with 2:03 remaining in the frame. However, Mines put together a 6-0 run in a matter of 61 seconds. Then, the Orediggers exploded for 30 points in the second quarter with seven individuals contributing to the outburst. At halftime, the home team owned a 49-27 lead. Baldessari's seven points in the third quarter helped cushion the Oredigger advantage. Campbell put the icing on the cake by scoring nine of her 10 points in the fourth quarter. Mines finished the win converting over 43 percent of its 30 three-point attempts.
