Mines Drops Conference Contest at Adams State

ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Colorado School of Mines women's basketball team fell to Adams State Saturday afternoon by a score of 80-70.
Jenna Shandy led Mines (12-11, 7-5 RMAC) with 16 points and eight rebounds. She also notched three assists. Emma Sixta came up with 13 points, four rebounds, and four assists. Sofia Baldessari turned in 10 points, six rebounds, and five assists. Adams State (17-5, 11-1 RMAC) reaped the benefits of 41 points off the hand of Kiiyani Anitielu. The Grizzlies also forced the Orediggers into 18 turnovers which offset a 41-35 rebounding deficit for the home team. Both teams hovered around 40-percent shooting from the floor. However, ASU was 24-of-32 at the free-throw line while Mines went 12-for-17.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Mines built a 10-point lead during the first quarter thanks to a trio of three-pointers. The Orediggers pushed that advantage to 11 points early in the second quarter before Adams State closed the half on a 20-7 run. At the break, ASU owned a 35-32 lead despite balanced scoring by the visitors. The third quarter was a battle that saw one tie and four lead changes. With one period to play, Adams State clung to a 50-49 lead. The Orediggers kept the game close for most of the final quarter and even tied the game one more time. However, late free-throw shooting by the Grizzlies and missed shots by Mines pushed the final margin to double digits.
