INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The NCAA released its first NCAA Power Index (NPI) rankings of the 2026 women's soccer season Monday, which saw the Colorado School of Mines women's soccer team ranked sixth in the South Central region.

The NCAA Power Index, or NPI, is a ranking system used to evaluate team performance. NPI is taking the place of Regional Advisory Committees (RACs), which previously determined regional rankings and championship selection. RACs were comprised of coaches and administrators of member schools within each region. NPI is new this year to Division II, while Division III has been using NPI since the 2024-25 academic year.

NPI considers game results and the strength of opponents to calculate a team's NPI value and ranking. NPI calculations update throughout the season as teams play additional contests and opponent NPI values change. A team's final NPI is not determined until the final games and rankings of the season are complete. The primary purpose of NPI is to compare teams for rankings and NCAA championship selection. Once automatic qualifiers are determined, remaining teams are considered for at-large selection based on NPI ranking until the championship field is filled. More information about the NPI system, calculations and records and dials can be found here.

Monday's preliminary rankings for the South Central region saw three teams from the Lone Star Conference leading the way, with Dallas Baptist (12-0-0, NPI 63.769), Midwestern State (12-1-1, 60.450) and Texas Woman's (13-1-0, 60.384) leading the way. Six RMAC teams were next in the rankings with Regis (12-2-0, 58.593) in fourth followed by UCCS (9-3-2, 57.709), Mines (8-2-3, 57.118), Black Hills State (9-1-3, 56.739), Colorado Mesa (8-3-1, 56.685) and Fort Lewis (8-2-2, 56.094). Lubbock Christian (7-2-4, 53.616) rounded out the top 10 in the region.

NPI rankings will be posted on Mondays the weeks of October 12 and 19, and will be updated daily Monday-Friday starting the week of October 26.

The Orediggers continue regular season play this weekend as they wrap up a four-match road trip at Colorado Mesa Friday night and at Westminster Sunday afternoon.
