Red-Hot Orediggers Tame Cougars in Three Sets

GOLDEN, Colo. – The Colorado School of Mines volleyball team recorded its fifth straight sweep Friday night with a win against RMAC leader Colorado Christian at Lockridge Arena.

It was another balanced performance as Naomi Romslo recorded 11 kills on .333 hitting while Abbie O'Shay and Cadence McDonald notched nine kills each. O'Shay posted a .615 attack percentage in her effort. Jenna McLaughlin added eight kills at a .375 clip as well. McLaughlin shined on defense too by knocking down six total blocks. In the back row, Francesca Nuzzo registered nine digs, and Sophia Davila had eight digs. Freshman setter Kaiya Gilbert put together a match resume featuring 30 assists, 13 digs, four aces, three blocks, and three kills on .333 hitting. Also notable was Davila going 2-for-2 with zero errors on the attack.

Mines (12-3, 3-2 RMAC) hit .375 as a team and used nine total blocks to limit Colorado Christian (7-7, 4-2 RMAC) to a .089 attack percentage. The Cougars entered the night with the best record in the conference, but only managed 25 kills on 90 attempts with three aces, five blocks, 25 assists, and 28 digs. The Orediggers notched 48 kills on 96 attempts with 45 assists, and 44 digs. Mines' .375 attack percentage was its highest in a match this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Orediggers picked up where they left off last Friday in Lakewood where they swept Colorado Christian with set scores of 25-11, 25-15, and 25-20. Action started with McDonald, O'Shay, Romslo, and McLaughlin all recording three kills apiece in the opening set. Mines' early struggles on offense gave way to a team attack percentage of .312 and a 25-17 win. Momentum stayed with the home team in the second set as well. The Orediggers had .394, Romslo had five error-free kills and O'Shay collected four more kills of her own. Three total blocks for Mines put CCU in the negative on the attack and the Orediggers rolled to a 25-11 victory. The sweep was never in doubt as McDonald and McLaughlin combined for eight more kills in the third set. Mines also hit .419 as a team to offset the Cougars' best offensive set of the night. One tie and zero lead changes underscored the 25-17 final tally.
