GOLDEN, Colo. – Friday night was one for the books as the Colorado School of Mines women's soccer team returned to Stermole Stadium with a 10-1 win against New Mexico Highlands.
Bella Campos broke the program single-match points record as the Orediggers (10-3-3, 6-2-2) scored in the opening minute and never looked back against the Cowgirls (0-14-1, 0-10-0) thanks to seven goals in the first half and three in the final period as six different players found the back of the net.
It didn't take long for the action to pop off as
Bella Campos scored on a cross in from
Bella Torres on the near side just 41 seconds into the evening.
Natalie Rouse made it 2-0 in the fifth minute when she headed home a corner kick from
Gaby Guerrero for the second time in the last six days. Campos and Torres teamed up again in the ninth minute when the former finished off an endline crosser by the latter that deflected off the fingertips of goalie Haylee Driscoll on the way back as the score moved to 3-0 just 8:30 into the action.
Caelan DeBolt got in on the fun in the 15th minute when Campos played a cross atop the top of the box as the Baylor transfer spun around a defender before shooting and scoring to make it a four-goal contest.
The 19th minute saw Campos back on the attack with her third goal of the night, doing it herself as she wove through the NMHU defense atop the arc before finishing on the back post to make it 5-0. Her fourth goal of the night came just 124 seconds later in the 21st minute, taking a near side throw in from
Finley Ewald before shooting back across for the goal to make it 6-0.
Keira Garcia made her only save of the half on a long-range volley by Juliette Perché before
Molly Elder capped the first half action in the 42nd minute. A crosser in by
Lindsay Jeans on the far side was tapped in on the back post by the freshman to make it 7-0 Mines heading to halftime.
Elder and Jeans teamed up again to re-open the scoring in the second half. A crossed from the near side by Jeans was nearly played in by
Madisen Powers as she just missed a sliding try. Elder came crashing in behind on the back post and flicked it up before heading it over Driscoll to made it 8-0 in the 55th minute. Powers got her chance next in the 67th minute, as an errant ball off a goal kick was scooped up by Jeans who played it up to
Shyla Kalpathy. Kalpathy played one touch off to Powers just inside the arc as she tucked a shot inside the back post to extend the lead to nine.
A defensive miscue by Mines in the 69th minute saw Tammia Thorpe break up the shutout, as
Brekyn Davenport-Murrish came out beyond the top of the penalty area to try and break up the play with no success as the chip shot trickled in on the back post just ahead of a sliding save try by
Kate Hendrickson to make it 9-1. Scoring concluded for the night in the 78th minute. A Cowgirl goal kick was won down by
Haliya Jabel on the far side as she played it up to Kalpathy. Kalpathy tried to find
Ariana Ahumada on the play, but an NMHU played managed to deflect the pass. Jabel, trailing the play, came racing in from the far side to win back possession before taking a quick touch and scoring on the near post to put a bow on a 10-1 victory.
