COLORADO SPRINGS - Colorado School of Mines running back
Max Barnes is the National Football Foundation Colorado Chapter's Player of the Week after leading the Orediggers to victory against Black Hills State.
Against a Yellow Jacket team off to a 4-1 start that had allowed only 86 rushing yards per game this season, Barnes went off for 147 yards on 16 carries with two touchdowns, averaging 9.2 yards per carry. He ripped off touchdowns of 49 and 37 yards to spark an Oredigger offense that would score 38 points in the win, and he also caught one pass for a seven-yard gain.
Barnes is the second Oredigger to win the award this season, joining quarterback
Joseph Capra from two weeks ago. The weekly award honors the Centennial State's top player from any of its 10 collegiate programs, regardless of division.
Mines has a bye this week before returning to face Colorado Mesa on the road on Oct. 17.
