Orediggers Near Top Of Leaderboard In Stockton

STOCKTON, Calif. -
Colorado School of Mines is four shots off the team lead after the first round of the RJGA Visit Stockton D-II Regional Preview on Monday.

The Orediggers opened their spring season with a six-over 294 team score, trailing leader #16 CSU Pueblo (290, +2) in a crowded grouping. Tied for sixth, Mines is in the middle of a logjam at the top of the leaderboard with only six strokes separating first from 11th places through 18 holes.

Freshman Liam Allan led the charge in the first round with a one-under 71 to be tied for ninth, three shots off the individual lead. Allan finished with two birdies over his final three holes to slip into the red as one of only 14 players in a field of 112 under par in the first round.

Colt Tenpenny shot a one-over 73 to be tied for 22nd, and Lucas Schulte and Carter Lolli each counted their +3 rounds of 75. Schulte charged back from a six-over frontside to go three-under in his second nine, while Lolli stayed consistent with an even-par afternoon. Lukas Taggart was Monday's non-counting score a stroke back at 76, putting him in a tie for 58th. 

Mines led the field in both par-3 and par-5 scoring on Monday at 3.05 and 4.55, respectively, making up nine shots on par 5s on a day where scoring was at a premium. 

Domincan's Jonathan Chen is the leader at -4, a shot ahead of #14 Colorado Mesa's Leo Lavalle.

Tuesday's final round pairings are to be determined but will be posted to the leaderboard on Golfstat.com.
