Aragon, Wayne Named To RMAC All-Academic Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference announced its First Team All-Academic squad and Honor Roll lists on Wednesday as the Colorado School of Mines softball team was well-represented with 11 total honorees headlined by First Team selections Kendall Aragon and Taylor Wayne.
 
Mines was one of three schools with multiple honorees on the 13-player First Team All-Academic list along with Black Hills State and UCCS, while their 11 total academic honorees was the second-most in the conference this spring behind UCCS with 12.
 
Aragon repeats First Team All-Academic honors from a season ago as she concludes her career. Soon to be a two-time graduate of Mines with a Master's in STEM Education this weekend to go along with a Bachelor's in Chemical Engineering last spring, Aragon carried a 3.89 GPA through her undergraduate career and through the winter term had a 3.86 in her graduate program. A First Team All-RMAC selection and Gold Glove Team honoree this spring, Aragon batted .420/.455/.692 with 13 doubles, 12 triples, three home runs, 49 RBI and 42 runs scored along with 11 stolen bases. The Thornton native led NCAA Division II in triples this spring and finished the regular season tied for the national lead across all levels of the NCAA. She broke the Mines single season and career records for triples this season and finished out with time as an Oredigger first in triples (19), second in hits (274), third in batting average (.402), fourth in at bats (681) and total bases (363), fifth in runs scored (144), sixth in RBI (133), tied for seventh in stolen bases (40), eighth in walks (65) and tied for 11th in doubles (36).
 
Wayne closes out her career with her first appointment to the All-Academic First Team following three Academic Honor Roll selections. The fifth-year graduate student from La Habra Heights, California, will wrap up a Master's in Mechanical Engineering this weekend following a Bachelor's degree in the same field last May. Wayne sported a 3.87 GPA as an undergraduate and through the winter term had a 4.0 in her graduate program. This spring Wayne led the Orediggers with a career-best eight wins in the circle while posting a 4.52 ERA which was good for 13th in the RMAC this spring. Over a team-leading 113 innings pitched in 27 appearances, she struck out 42 while at the plate she hit a home run, drove in two runs and scored five times. Wayne won three consecutive starts this season from February 21-28 against UCCS and Fort Lewis while working a career-high eight innings against MSU Denver on March 14. She made her 100th career appearance in the final game of her career in last week's RMAC quarterfinals. A 21-game winner in her career, Wayne pitched 348.1 innings with 153 strikeouts with 15 of her wins coming over the last two seasons.
 
A further nine Orediggers were named to the league's Academic Honor Roll including Kat Miller, Kiyana Tsuei, Emiaj Self, Ellen Shull, Mia Lopez, Kate Whipple, Katie Bauer, Lindy French and Grace Weiler.
