COLORADO SPRINGS – Alex Dunagan was crowned the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Baseball Academic Player of the Year Monday as Mines placed 20 on the conference's all-academic teams.

In addition to his RMAC Baseball Academic Player of the Year award, Dunagan also earned RMAC First-Team All-Academic distinction. Evan Bilter, Brody Duvall, and Tyler Pina were voted RMAC First-Team All-Academic as well. Mines baseball had 16 other Orediggers appear on the RMAC Academic Honor Roll. Criteria to be eligible for the first team include maintaining a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 3.50 or better while also providing outstanding performance in competition. Requirements for the honor roll include a 3.30 cumulative GPA, using a year of eligibility, and completion of two consecutive semesters at the current institution. The first team was voted on by communication professionals around the RMAC. Dunagan earned the top honor as the player with the most votes. Departments could not vote for their own players.

Mines' RMAC Academic Honor Roll members were Dillon Alcouffe, Kenji Bray, Tyler Easter, Evan Harbach, Tyler Hummel, Colin Kim, Ben Leiphart, Jack Magnus, Neil Mallik, Will Niles, Luke Parker, Grant Reising, Joe Reitz, Ryan Semin, Nicholas Spidel, and Joseph Steidel. The Orediggers' 20 total honorees were the most of any program in the conference.

Dunagan's selection as RMAC Academic Player of the Year came on the same day he was named D2CCA All-Region in the outfield. He was also RMAC All-Tournament, the RMAC Summit Award winner, and Mines' Male Academic Athlete of the Year. In the classroom, Dunagan boasted a 4.00 GPA as a mechanical engineering major. On the field, he finished the season and conference tournament leading the nation in total doubles as he batted .346 with 54 runs on 73 hits including 25 doubles, two triples, 12 home runs, and 73 RBI. He also walked 17 times, was hit by a pitch 10 times and stole nine bases on 11 attempts. Dunagan's RBI production ranked #2 in program history as well.

Bilter earned academic first-team status thanks to a 3.51 GPA in civil engineering. Duvall's inaugural academic recognition in the RMAC came on the merits of his 3.56 GPA in electrical engineering. Pina put together a 3.84 GPA while obtaining his bachelor's degree in computer science, and posted a 3.82 GPA as a master's student in computer science.
