ALLAN, TAGGART HEAD TO NCAA REGIONAL
Freshman
Liam Allan and senior
Lukas Taggart will represent Colorado School of Mines as individuals at the 2026 NCAA West/South Central Regional Championships, set for Thursday through Saturday in Stockton, Calif. The duo qualified as two of the four individuals not with competing teams selected from the South Central region, with Allan finishing the regular season at #22 and Taggart at #31 in the Scoreboard regional rankings.
THE TOURNAMENT
The NCAA regional tournament is a three-day, 54-hole tournament, one of four nationally that will determine the field for the NCAA Division II Championship to be held at Boulder Creek GC in Nevada on May 18-22. The ten best teams from both the West and South Central regions will compete in stroke play, and the top six finishing teams, plus the top two individuals not with one of those teams, will advance to the national tournament. Allan and Taggart have been paired together for the first two rounds, teeing off Thursday at 10 a.m. PT and Friday at 1:20 p.m. PT along with Cal State Dominguez Hills' Troy Song. Saturday's tee times are to be determined.
THE FORECAST
Conditions are forecast to be favorable in Stockton with highs in the mid-80s under sunshine all three days, and afternoon breezes around 10 mph.
THE COURSE
The Reserve at Spanos Park is a links-style course in Stockton, Calif. designed by Andy Raugust. Playing 7,132 from the championship tees, the course opened in 1999 and features Mt. Diablo as a dramatic backdrop.
TAGGART RETURNS FOR FOURTH NCAA REGIONAL
Lukas Taggart joins rare company qualifying for his fourth and final NCAA regional as the senior hopes to extend his Oredigger career with a first nationals berth. Taggart - who is set to receive his bachelor's in mechanical engineering from Mines next week - qualified as an individual in both 2023 and 2024 and with the team in 2025, with a best finish of T27 as a sophomore in 2024. This season, Taggart owns a 73.19 scoring average finishing in the top five twice, including a fourth-place finish (-6) at the RMAC Championships in late April.
ALLAN TO MAKE NCAA DEBUT
Liam Allan has burst onto the scene as one of the nation's best freshmen in 2025-26, finishing as the runner-up at the RMAC Championships and leading Mines with a 72.92 average this season. Allan has five top-10 and four top-5 finishes this year including a win at the RJGA Palm Valley Classic in early April; he's been on-form over the past month going a combined -19 over his past six rounds. His win at the Palm Valley Classic was the first by an Oredigger since 2020, and he became the first freshman since 2018 to take home a tournament title.
WHAT'S AHEAD
Should either Allan or Taggart - or both - finish as the top two players not with advancing teams at the regional, they would move on to the NCAA Division II Championships May 18-22 in Nevada.
