ROAD TRIP
The Colorado School of Mines Volleyball team hits the road this weekend for a pair of conference showdowns. Friday features a 6 p.m. match at New Mexico Highlands in Las Vegas, N.M. On Saturday, the Orediggers take on Adams State in Alamosa, Colo., at 6 p.m. By the end of the weekend, Mines will have played seven of its last eight matches away from home. The journey also presents the Orediggers a chance to bounce back from last week's 0-2 start to RMAC play.

RMAC NETWORK
The RMAC Network continues to have a pay-per-view model for all events. NUZZO HITS MILESTONE
Francesca Nuzzo hit a career milestone last weekend at #18 MSU Denver as she recorded the 1,000th dig of her college career. Nuzzo, a native of Rome, Italy, started her college career at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colo., where she accumulated 487 digs. She came to Mines last season and played outside hitter for the Orediggers. Her first season in Golden featured 362 digs. Now, in her final collegiate season, Nuzzo is playing libero for Mines and has 151 digs through 10 matches. The last Oredigger to surpass 1,000 career digs was Jada Price who played for Mines 2022-25.
 
SCOUTING NEW MEXICO HIGHLANDS
New Mexico Highlands enters the weekend 2-9 overall and 0-3 in conference play after a Tuesday loss to Adams State. The Cowgirls' two victories were against Sul Ross State (3-0) in Gunnison, Colo., and Northwestern Oklahoma State (3-1) at home. All nine of NMHU's defeats have come in straight sets. Aziza Morris serves as the top weapon on offense with 93 kills and a .181 attack percentage. Lea Susoy is right behind touting 92 kills and 14 service aces. Naya Dornic's 3.50 digs per set headline the back row. Lenaea Carr touts 26 total blocks across 28 sets of action. As a team, New Mexico Highlands is hitting .124 while the opposition averages .251 on the attack.
 
OREDIGGERS AGAINST THE COWGIRLS
Mines owns an all-time record of 36-29 against New Mexico Highlands in volleyball. The Orediggers won 16 consecutive matches from 2005-23 before the Cowgirls snapped that streak in a five-set heartbreaker on Oct. 11, 2024, in New Mexico. Mines swept NMHU last year in Golden thanks to 20 combined kills from Jenna McLaughlin and Francesca Nuzzo. Ten digs for Nuzzo gave her a double-double as well and Avery Perreira posted three service aces. Since 2017, the Orediggers have only surrendered three total sets to the Cowgirls with all three set losses coming during the 2024 defeat. Every other meeting in that span has been a sweep in Mines' favor.
 
SCOUTING ADAMS STATE
Adams State started its week by sweeping New Mexico Highlands on the road on Tuesday. That victory improved ASU to 6-7 overall and 2-1 in RMAC play. The Grizzlies' other conference win was a 3-0 victory at Westminster last weekend. They did lose to Colorado Mesa in straight sets last Friday as well. Other notable results include a five-set loss to a Wisconsin Parkside team which was receiving national votes at the time and another five-set thriller which went to then-#25 West Texas A&M on the Lady Buffs home court. Indvidually, Isa Folau leads the team with 138 kills, but Aubrey Rothermich is more efficient with 3.02 kills per set on .217 hitting. Isabella DeLaRosa runs the offense and averages 8.71 assists per set while touting 15 aces. In the back row, Ashlyn Jones ranks #25 in the nation in total digs with 208 (4.33 per set). In the front row, Rowan Tribelhorn owns 43 total blocks in 47 sets of action. The Grizzlies' season attack percentage is .179 and their opponents combined mark is .191.
 
OREDIGGERS AGAINST THE GRIZZLIES
Mines is 36-35 all-time against Adams State in volleyball. The Orediggers overtook the Grizzlies in the series thanks to 14 straight wins from 2014-23. That run was snapped with Mines' 3-0 loss to ASU in Golden in 2024. Last year, the Orediggers avenged the win with a 3-0 win against the Grizzlies in Golden. Jenna McLaughlin fueled the victory with 18 error-free kills on 27 attacks which came out to a .667 attack percentage. That number is still tied for fourth in the program record book. McLaughlin bolstered her resume in that match with six total blocks as well. The last time Mines lost to Adams State in Alamosa was Sept. 16, 2011.
 
LOOKING BACK
Last week marked the start of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) play. Mines' conference slate started against the league's defending co-champions UCCS and MSU Denver. The Orediggers hosted the Mountain Lions Friday night at Lockridge Arena and suffered a 3-0 loss despite hitting .301 as a team. Jenna McLaughlin and Cadence McDonald produced 13 kills apiece with McLaughlin swinging .355 and McDonald converting at a .435 clip. Kaiya Gilbert also posted 42 assists and 11 digs with five kills in just three sets. On Saturday, Mines traveled to the #18-ranked Roadrunners and fell in four sets. Despite the loss, Sophia Davila had a career night, touting 11 kills, 14 digs, three total blocks, and three service aces.
 
AT THE HELM
The 2026 season marks the 19th with Jamie Magalei at the helm for Mines volleyball. She's the program's all-time leader in total wins (391-150) and win percentage (.723) by a large margin. Magalei is also the longest-tenured and winningest head coach among current RMAC skippers. Furthermore, the North Dakota native entered the 2026 season ranked 18th in winning percentage and 38th in total wins among active DII head coaches. She surpassed 300 career wins in 2021. She's one of six to reach the milestone while coaching in the RMAC. Through the 2025 season, Magalei has coached 32 all-America selections, three CSC Academic All-Americans, and 72 all-conference performers. Her resume also includes three Regional Players of the Year, two Regional Freshmen of the Year, and 16 RMAC major award winners. Magalei has guided Mines to six RMAC regular-season championships, and five RMAC Tournament titles with 13 consecutive NCAA tournament appearances from 2009-22 (no NCAA tournament in 2020) and 14 overall. She also guided the Orediggers to either a conference regular-season or tournament title every season from 2012-21 including a sweep of both in 2015.
 
MAGALEI LEADS THE RMAC
As referenced above, Mines Head Coach Jamie Magalei is the longest-tenured and winningest head coach among current RMAC skippers. At 391-150 (.723) overall, she's nearly 200 wins ahead of Grayson DuBose at Black Hills State who is just in his second season at BHSU but his 16th overall. Magalei's also nearly 200 wins ahead of Colorado Christian's Bobby Blanken who entered his 10th season at CCU with 192 victories. Regis' Joel List is also entering his 10th season at Regis which ties him and Blanken for the second-longest tenure in the RMAC among active head coaches.

Next week brings the annual RMAC Regional Pod. This year's edition has Mines playing at Colorado Christian on Friday at 6 p.m. before hosting #19 MSU Denver on Saturday at 5 p.m. Neither match counts toward the conference standings.
