RAPID CITY, S.D. - South Dakota Mines and Colorado School of Mines repeated their performance from a week ago, forging an identical scoreline as the Hardrockers won 3-2 over the Orediggers in RMAC play.
South Dakota Mines (5-1-2, 1-0-0 RMAC) held a 12-9 shots edge over the Orediggers (0-7-2, 0-1-0 RMAC), who rallied back from 2-0 down and threatened to equalize with quality possession through much of the second half.
SDM took advantage of a hard wind at their backs in the first half, scoring goals by Julen Arteaga and Lucas Miranda in the 23rd and 32nd minutes, respectively, but the Orediggers got one back when
Mason Robledo found the net for his collegiate strike in the 36th minute. The Hardrockers got one more in before halftime, however, with Zach Peroff scoring from Shon West at 42:01.
Mines came roaring out of the break and
Avi Levin used the wind to his advantage with a long pacey strike just 1:13 into the second half. The Orediggers enjoyed a 6-3 shots lead in the second 45 but couldn't solve goalkeeper Claudio Otto, who made four of his five saves in the period.
The Orediggers combined
Noah Hildreth (4 saves) and
Zach MacDonald (1 save) in goal, with MacDonald working a second-half clean sheet. Levin and
Pol Garcia Oliveras each had two shots to lead the team.
Mines returns home to host MSU Denver on Thursday, Oct. 1 at 6 p.m.
