GOLDEN, Colo. – The Colorado School of Mines women's soccer team kicked off week two of the season Thursday night at Stermole Stadium with a bang, rolling to a 5-0 win over regional rival Angelo State.
Bella Campos registered a brace with an assist, while
Bella Torres,
Allyson Townsend and
Finley Ewald all scored their first career goals for the Orediggers (2-1-0) while
Brekyn Davenport-Murrish and the defense stymied the Rambelles (1-1-1) all night defensively.
Mines wasted little time going on the attack against a young and short-handed Angelo State squad. Campos scored the first two goals of the night less than four minutes apart in the 14th and 18th minutes. The opening tally was scored when Campos cleaned up a rebound following a shot by
Gaby Guerrero that was saved off the crossbar and back into play by ASU keeper Claire Stoermer. The second came when
Sam Forde played a through ball the Guerrero near midfield, before she chipped it long downfield for Campos as she ran it down, slipped past the Rambelles' defense and flipped a shot over a charging Stoermer to make it 2-0.
As shots continued to stack up for Mines in the opening half, Campos found herself playing the role of facilitator on the night's third goal. After tracking down a long ball on the far side and running out of room on the end line, she spun and played a ball back toward the center of the field to
Natalie Mezarina. The sophomore then played the extra pass to a charging
Bella Torres, who let rip and scored to make it 3-0 Mines in the 35th minute. The Orediggers had a chance to make it a four-goal contest heading into the break with a penalty kick chance in the 36th minute, but Guerrero's shot was saved by Stoermer to keep the margin at three going to the break.
It didn't take long for the night's fourth goal to go on the board, as
Allyson Townsend joined the party in the 50th minute. After gathering a ball played out wide in front of the Mines bench,
Lindsay Jeans chipped a pass to the center of the box where a waiting Townsend skied and flicked a header to the back post to extend the lead further. Angelo State had a chance in the 59th minute when a handball was called against the Orediggers, resulting in a penalty kick awarded. Eleanor Lock stepped up and missed her shot as well, fooling Davenport-Murrish in goal but shooting the ball off the near post as the freshman managed to secure to rebound while prone on the ground.
After Davenport-Murrish made a save against Carley Martinez in the 67th minute, Mines turned to their bench and played out the stretch with their reserves. One of those reserves,
Finley Ewald, capped off the scoring in the 75th minute with a volley from the near sideline that was nearly saved by new goalie Kady Cleary, but the shot carried over her to the back post and across the line to make it a 5-0 lead.
Kate Hendrickson let rip a few shots late against the third ASU goalie of the night Latae Rodriguez as she looked to get in on the action, but five goals ended up being enough as Mines collected the win to improve to 5-1-1 all-time against the Rambelles.
NOTABLES
-Campos scored the 52nd and 53rd goals of her career as well as the 16th assist of her career; she's now tied for third on the all-time scoring list with former teammate Reese McDermott (2021-24) and two back of McDermott for third in career points, having passed Megan Woodworth (2009-12) with 122 points as well as 14 game-winners to take over fourth on that list as well
-Thursday was the 11th multi-goal match of Campos' career and eighth match with at least one goal and one assist, all of which happened in just 35 minutes of action
-Guerrero added her second and third assists of the season on the two campos goals
-Forde recorded her first career assist on the second goal by Campos
-Mezarina and Jeans each recorded their second career assists in the win
-Torres, Townsend and Ewald each scored for the first time in their Mines careers
-Davenport-Murrish recorded a save in her first career shutout
-Ewald and
Ariana Ahumada each made their returns Thursday after missing all of the 2025 season

Addison Bailey,
Shyla Kalpathy and
Madisen Powers all made their Mines debuts in the match
-The Orediggers outshot Angelo State 26-11 overall and 16-1 in shots on frame
