Mines Intramural Sports Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between "Intramural Sports" and "Club Sports"?
Intramural Sports offers tournaments, competitions, and leagues to compete against your peers. No experience needed! Join with your friends and play against other Orediggers.

Looking to be more competitive? Try out for a Club Sport! Club Sports competes at the DII and DIII levels, with several nationally-ranked and National Champion teams. Athletes attend practices, compete against other universities, and travel to games and tournaments across the state/country.

How do I keep updated on upcoming leagues, tournaments, and events?
The entire semester's schedule is posted in advance on Fusion Play, with more events sometimes added during the semester. For the latest information, sign-up for our weekly newsletter and follow us on Instagram.

Where can I sign up for intramurals?
Registration typically opens 2 weeks before the season/event start date. Some sports fill up in an hour, so sign up early!
T
o join leagues, tournaments, and events, sign up on Fusion Play.
To join Open Play and Learn to Play sessions, sign up on OreConnect.

Does my whole team have to sign up at once? What if I don't have a team?

Yes and no. After your team captain signs up, they will invite players to join. However, your team will be "waitlisted" until enough people have joined - meaning if your team doesn't get off the waitlist in time, all available spots might fill up.

If you don't have a team, you can sign up as a Free Agent. Free Agents are not guaranteed to play, but if an existing team needs more players, they can request a Free Agent to fill their final spots - which happens often!

Are intramurals free?
Yes! All leagues, tournaments, learn-to-play sessions, and events are free to Rec Sports members. Occasionally, outside groups partner with us to host special events and may sell tickets for expense/fundraising purposes.

What sports do you offer?

Basketball, soccer, chess, battleship, pickleball, ping pong - the list goes on! Fall and Spring semesters feature different sports. See the upcoming semester's schedule on Fusion Play.

I want to learn how to play a new sport. Can you help?
Our Learn-To-Play sessions teach newbies popular sports, like pickleball, racquetball, disc golf, esports, and more. We partner with student organizations, so you can learn from your peers in a supportive environment. Check OreConnect for upcoming sessions.

What is "Open Play"? Should I bring anything?
During early fall and late spring (when the weather is warm), Open Play is a weekly time where you can drop-in and play soccer, volleyball, spikeball, cornhole, and more. All equipment is provided - so bring your friends, drop by, and enjoy! Just sign up on OreConnect, where you'll also find times and locations.

Do you have _____? Can I suggest a sport?
If you don't see a certain sport on our schedule, it may be offered during a different semester. However, feel free to email intramurals@mines.edu with any suggestions or questions!
