Elly Smith joined the Mines staff as an Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach in the summer of 2024.
 
Coach Smith brings a distinguished combination of practical experience and academic distinction to this role. She currently serves as an active Strength and Conditioning Coach at Mines, overseeing training programs for softball, football, golf, men’s and women’s basketball, and wrestling. Her professional expertise includes completing a competitive Strength and Conditioning Internship at Mines in 2023, followed by a volunteer coaching tenure at Northern State University later that same year. Coach Smith holds multiple advanced strength and conditioning certifications, demonstrating her commitment to evidence-based practice.
 
Before her work at Mines, Coach Smith earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Performance (Magna Cum Laude) from Northern State University. As a standout Division II softball student-athlete for the Wolves, her accolades included the Army National Guard Player of the Week, selection to the NSIC All-Academic Team of Excellence, the NSIC Myles Brand All-Academic with Distinction Award, and an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. She also served as team Captain her senior season.
 
A Colorado native, Smith recently completed her Master of Science degree in Kinesiology through Louisiana State University.
