2016-17: Captain … NCAA All-American … NWCA Honorable Mention All-Academic … Second Team All-RMAC … Named team MVP … Spent most of the season nationally ranked, peaking at #5 at 149 according to D2wrestle.com … Was the RMAC Championships runner-up at 149 … Also the NCAA Super Region 4 Championships runner-up to qualify for his first NCAA Championships … Placed 8th at NCAAs to secure all-America status, upsetting #12 Ty Lydic of Seton Hill in wrestlebacks to make the all-America round … Also placed second at the UNK Open … Second on the team overall in wins at 22-12 … Started nine duals and went 8-1, including 3-0 in RMAC duals … Had a major decision, tech fall, and four pins among his 22 wins … Fastest pin came in 58 seconds … Generated 32 dual points, second-most on the team.

2015-16: Went 10-13 overall at 149 pounds … Started all but one dual for Mines at 149 … Recorded three pins … Earned 25 dual points, third-best on the team thanks to a 5-5 dual mark … UNK Open sixth-place finisher. 

2014-15: Went 20-16 with five falls at 141 lbs. as a sophomore …Was 3-5 in RMAC competition … Had second-place finishes at the Jet Invite and the Nebraska-Kearney Holiday Inn Open … Also took fourth at the Rocky Mountain Collegiate Open.

2013-14: Went 9-8 overall … Finished fourth at the NCAA West Regional tournament.

High School: Gerken lettered four times in wrestling as a prep at Fort Morgan High School in Fort Morgan… Finished third at the Colorado 4A State Wrestling Championships in the 138-pound weight class as a senior… Finished sixth in the 132-pound weight class as a junior… Named All-Conference… Named Academic All-State as a junior and senior… A four-year member of the Alpha Honor Roll.
