DENVER - When #10 Colorado School of Mines needed a goal the most, their hottest boot delivered.Â
Jaclyn Knott provided the overtime golden goal as Mines beat Regis, 3-2, in a non-RMAC game that saw Mines erase deficits twice to win.
The Orediggers (13-2) showed tremendous resiliency as they received second-half goals from
Haley Cole and
Emily Garnier to set up overtime. Knott continued her terrific run of form to score in her fifth consecutive game, with six goals over that span.
Regis dominated the opening half hour and deservedly went ahead when Lizzie Thometz scored on a give-and-go with Tori Rinsem at 21:36. Mines came to life late in the half, however, and nearly equalized when Garnier's free kick forced Regis goalkeeper Kat Crump to make a tip save off the post.
Mines refocused in the break, and Cole scored 1:30 into the second half when she beat Crump to the far post off
Nicole LaTourette's feed. Mines owned much of the possession in the second half, but a momentary lapse allowed Regis to retake the lead in the 73rd minute when Sofia Garcia rifled a shot that
Sam Zumbro got a finger tip to at the post.
The Rangers lead didn't last long. After
Laya Rybicki forced a tip save over the bar by Crump, Garnier collected a rebounded
Brooke Stoermer corner and hit a shot on the volley from 18 yards to equalize at 79'. That forced overtime, where Knott dispossessed a defender and put a shot into the upper left corner at 96:34 to win it.
