GOLDEN, Colo. - #18 Colorado School of Mines exploded for five goals as they blanked Adams State, 5-0, in a snowy one-sided game Thursday.
Played in a steady snowfall that covered the Stermole Stadium pitch by halftime, the Orediggers (13-2-1, 9-1-1 RMAC) still managed to produce a whopping 39 shots, including 22 on goal, while keeping the ball almost entirely in the Grizzlies' (3-7-4, 2-6-3 RMAC) end.
Jennifer Kendall had a goal and an assist to lead the offense as
Laya Rybicki,
Lindsey Tornabene, and
Brooke Stoermer also found the back of the net.
Shannon Mooney made three saves to produce the shutout.
Kendall got things going in the 27th minute, finishing
Haley Cole's cross at point-blank range, and Rybicki had a fine finish from the top of the box from Kendall's cross four minutes later to make it 2-0. Mines then stole another at the stroke of halftime when Tornabene headed home
Emily Garnier's free kick to lead 3-0 at the break.
An own goal in the 49th minute extended the Mines lead to 4-0, and Stoermer capped the game in the 85th minute with her fourth of the season, finishing to an empty net after
Acacia Ortiz crossed it to the six.
Mines outshot ASU 39-4 and held a 9-1 corners advantage.
Mines wraps up the regular season Saturday, hosting Fort Lewis at 11 a.m. An Oredigger win and Regis loss to MSU Denver would give Mines a share of the RMAC regular-season championship.
