#8 Mines Gets By Colorado Mesa, 3-1

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - #8 Colorado School of Mines continued its impressive unbeaten streak, beating Colorado Mesa 3-1 on the road.

The Orediggers (9-1-1, 6-0-1 RMAC) have not lost in their last 10 matches, since their season opener on Sept. 1. The Mavericks (6-6-0, 3-4-0 RMAC) were held without a first-half shot as Mines built a three-goal lead in the game.

Acacia Ortiz, Nicole LaTourette, and Jennifer Kendall each scored for Mines, who outshot their hosts 19-8. Ortiz got it going in the 27th minute with a putback of Chaney Brugman's rebounded shot, and the game stood at 1-0 at the half with Mines outshooting Mesa 14-0 in the opening 45 minutes.

LaTourette doubled the lead with a stunning 30-yard strike at 52:22, and Kendall scored her team-leading sixth of the year off Emily Garnier's free kick in the 64th minute. The assist was the 20th of Garnier's career, making her only the third Oredigger in program history to reach 20 helpers.

CMU got on the board late as Hannah Naftanel put a free kick from the top of the box over the wall and into the upper left corner at 77:49.

Shannon Mooney made five saves, all in the second half as CMU applied pressure after Mines' third goal.

The Orediggers return home Friday, Oct. 13 to host UCCS at 7:30 p.m.
