Softball Drops Season Opener To Midwestern State

WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Colorado School of Mines dropped their 2017 season opener at Midwestern State Friday by a 5-0 scoreline.

The Orediggers (0-1) faced off against a tough Mustangs (4-5) squad that already had eight games under its belt as they made their season debut.

Mines' first hit of the season was a first-inning double by Dani Valerio, but the Orediggers couldn't capitalize and MSU responded with three runs in the bottom of the first with Kelcee Thompson's two-run double and Carli Woolsey's RBI single. Erin Knox's two-run single in the second made it 5-0.

Mines had runners in scoring position in three more innings, including the sixth when Brielle Asato singled, stole second, and was later stranded on third.
