THE ROCKY MOUNTAIN COLLEGIATE OPEN
Mines will once again host the Rocky Mountain Collegiate Open on Sunday, with teams from around the region visiting Steinhauer Fieldhouse for the four-mat bracketed tournament. Wrestling begins at 10 a.m. and will run straight through to finals. Limited bleacher seating will be available; fans are welcome to bring their own camp chairs to the fieldhouse. In last year's RMCO, Zach Gracia and
Noah Au-Yeung were runners-up at 125 and 133, respectively, and
Matt Lavengood was third at 125 to lead the Orediggers' day.
RMAC CHAMPIONSHIPS RECAP
Jacob Gerken was the 149-pound runner-up and Colorado School of Mines finished eighth at the 2017 RMAC Wrestling Championships at the Olympic Training Center. Mines had six place-winners to compile 55 team points. In addition to Gerken's silver,
Matt Lavengood and
Justin Ray each earned fourth-place finishes, and the trio of
Ethan Ruby,
Keenan Willits, and
Robert Gambrell all took sixth at their respective weight classes of 157, 165, and 174. CSU-Pueblo won the RMAC title led by 165-pound champ JaCobi Jones and 157-pound runnerup Kyle Fantin.

Mines 149-pounder
Jacob Gerken jumped up three spots to #5 in last week's d2wrestle.com national rankings. Gerken is 15-6 this season. In the newest Super Region 4 rankings,
Noah Au-Yeung debuted at #8 at 133,
Lukas Erickson is #7 at 141, Gerken stayed at #2 at 149,
Keenan Willits is #8 at 165, and
Robert Gambrell moved up to #5 at 174.
LAST YEAR
Mines upset then-#19 CSU-Pueblo 37-13 in Golden in an inspired effort that included four falls.
Jacob Gerken's pin of Dixon Richins at 149 and
Paul Wilson's fall over Keith Karnes keyed the victory;
John Crowley also decisioned Kyle Bateman.
