Douglas, Glen Hit Career Highs, Mines Beats NMHU

LAS VEGAS, N.M. - Led by a trio of big scorers, Colorado School of Mines pulled away late and held off New Mexico Highlands to earn an 81-78 road win Thursday night.

The Orediggers (14-3, 8-3 RMAC) received career-highs in scoring from Duke Douglas (26) and Michael Glen (19) as Luke Schroepfer drained 20.

After leading 38-33 at the half, Mines fell behind by as much as eight in the second half after Chris Lewis' dunk with 7:25 remaining made it 67-59 in favor of the hosts. Mines came out of the under-eight media timeout on a 9-2 run, however, turning it into a one-point game, and they took the lead on Glen's jumper with 2:49 left to go up 73-71.

Mines never trailed after that, getting two straight buckets from Glen and key late free throws by Douglas and Mason Baker to go up five with 17 seconds to go. NMHU's Mike Nwabuzor hit a layup with 11 seconds left to cut it to a basket, and had a chance to force overtime just before the buzzer as Jordan Jones' three-point bid was too strong.
