All Mines Athletics teams are involved in this new SAAC reading outreach endeavor, taking place once per month and led by
Sarah Berude (swimming),
LaRose Currie (volleyball) and
Liz Tomon (women's basketball). Each Mines Athletics team will visit each school for one hour on a designated date, allowing all athletes the opportunity to work with and mentor community youth in a group-learning and team-building environment. Visits consist of 30 minutes of reading (sport and team-related books with inspiring/motivational themes) and 30 minutes of physical activities. Mines teams meet with two classes at each school, totaling 50 students per school per monthly visit.
Upcoming Mines Reading Program dates at Mitchell Elementary and Maple Grove Elementary include:
- Thursday, February 15 | Volleyball (Mitchell) and Football & Golf (Maple Grove)
- Wednesday, March 14 | Men's and Women's Soccer (both schools)
