Rebounding Pushes Mines Past CCU, 86-71

GOLDEN, Colo. – Colorado School of Mines controlled the second half to beat Colorado Christian in an 86-71 decision at Lockridge Arena.

The Orediggers (15-4, 9-4 RMAC) outrebounded the Cougars (3-16, 2-11 RMAC) by a huge 41-22 margin, and were led by Michael Glen's double-double, Ben Sonnefeld's 20 points, and Luke Schroepfer's 17-point performance.

Mines controlled the opening minutes of the game, but hot three-point shooting by the Cougars keyed a 13-5 run that gave CCU the lead for the first time, 33-31, with 3:50 left in the first half. Mines responded in a huge way, ending the first half on a 17-6 run of their own that included 11 Schroepfer points to head into the break up 48-39.

CCU hung around and got as close as six in the second half, but Mines ultimately closed the door with a 9-3 run late in the half that put them up 15. Ben Sonnefeld scored six of the points, putting Mines up double digits with a pair of free throws, then adding two more freebies and a bucket at the five-minute mark to extend the lead to 15.
