GOLDEN, Colo. – The Colorado School of Mines Baseball team suffered a heartbreaking loss Sunday as St. Edward's mounted a furious comeback and toppled the Orediggers 12-10 in 10 innings in the series finale. Mines finished the weekend 2-2 against the Hilltoppers.
Three Orediggers went yard in Sunday's finale as
Trevor Kehe hit his third of the season while
Joe Popp and
Walter Pennington each hit their first of the year.
Derek Daly led Mines' offense, going 3-for-4 with one run and three RBI.
Jace Selsor,
Mikey Gangwish and Kehe all finished with two hits and two runs each.
On the mound,
Toby Scoles got the start and put himself in line for the win with 6.0 innings of five-hit, shutout work and three strikeouts.
Sam Slusser (0-1) was dealt the loss while SEU's Jake Davis (1-1) earned the win in relief.

Drew Hill all came out of the bullpen for Mines.
The Orediggers (4-3) dominated the first seven innings as they jumped out to a 9-0 lead. Popp homered in the third inning, Pennington went long in the fourth inning and Kehe jacked his third home run of the series in the fifth inning.
In the top of the eighth inning St. Edward's (5-4) stormed back, scoring 10 runs on 10 hits with three walks and two wild pitches. The Hilltoppers' Blake Alexander capped the rally with a two-out grand slam to give SEU a 10-9 lead.
Pennington tied it for Mines in the bottom of the ninth with a RBI double. However, St. Edward's scored two runs in the extra frame and shut down the Oredigger's offense to escape Colorado with a series split.

- Mines is now 4-6 in the all-time series with St. Edward's.
