ALAMOSA, Colo. – The No.23-ranked Colorado School of Mines Baseball took care of business Friday as it defeated Adams State 12-5 at ASU Baseball Field and extended its winning streak to four games.
Mikey Gangwish started his defense as the NCBWA National Hitter of the Week by leading the Orediggers with three runs on three hits with four RBI.
Trevor Kehe,
Jace Selsor,
Daniel Ciraula,
Joe Popp and
Gabe Garvens all recorded multiple hits as Kehe, Selsor and Ciraula scored multiple runs. Popp and Garvens also drove in multiple runs and Selsor finished the day with two doubles.
On the mound,
Drew Burman (6-2) surrendered just two earned runs on five hits with five strikeouts to earn the win.
Jake Roberts provided two innings of scoreless relief in his fourth appearance of the year.
Jake Ekstrom came out of the bullpen for the ninth inning to close out the win. Brett Aker (0-1) took the loss for Adams State.
It was back and forth early between the Orediggers (23-8, 16-5 RMAC) and the Grizzlies (1-34, 1-20 RMAC) with a score of 4-4 through three innings of play. However, five runs for Mines in the fourth frame blew the game wide open.
Derek Daly brought in a run thanks to a Grizzlies' error to make it 5-4.
Walter Pennington walked with the bases loaded to increase the Orediggers' lead to 6-4. A sacrifice fly from
Colton Wardle and a two-run single from Garvens made it 10-4, Mines.
The visitors added two insurance runs in the seventh thanks to RBI from Gangwish and Popp and another cushion run in the ninth to make it 12-4. Adams State's run in the bottom of the ninth proved too little too late as the Orediggers maintained their spot at No. 1 in the RMAC.
