Orediggers Fall to Mesa in RMAC Tournament Championship

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Colorado School of Mines Baseball team ended its 2018 RMAC Tournament run in the championship game Saturday with a pair of losses to Colorado Mesa, 6-5 and 9-6.

Derek Daly, Trevor Kehe and Mikey Gangwish earned RMAC All-Tournament honors thanks to their postseason performance on the field over four games. In the championship series, Joe Popp and Daly both batted .400 as Daly scored three times and Popp drove in three more. Gangwish hit his 22 home run of the year and finished with three RBI. Jace Selsor and Kehe each recorded multiple hits on the day as well.

Drew Burman (6-4) made the start in game one and took the loss. Matt Martin was stellar in relief with 2.1 innings of two-hit, shutout work. Owen Pigati and Owen Starr also appeared in game one out of the bullpen. Sam Slusser (1-5) took the loss in game two with Toby Scoles, Jake Ekstrom and Gabe Garvens appearing in relief for Mines. Taylor Prokopis (6-1) and AJ Landis (5-2) earned the wins for Colorado Mesa.

The Mavericks (40-14) scored four runs in the opening frame of both games to put itself in the driver's seat. Mines (35-16) rallied back in game one, using Gangwish's two-run home run to pull within one run. However, CMU overcame late errors to clinch the victory. The Orediggers also rallied in game two as Kehe and Gangwish drove in two runs each, but the Mavericks' bullpen proved too much.
