GOLDEN, Colo. - A monster second half and
Brendan Sullivan's career-high 20 points helped Colorado School of Mines to its 12th straight win, dropping South Dakota Mines 93-71 on Friday.
The Orediggers (13-3, 10-0 RMAC) remained perfect in conference play shooting 67.9 percent in the second half to break open what had been a close game. The Hardrockers (7-11, 4-6 RMAC) kept it close in the first half led by Allec Williams' 18 points.
Sullivan had a superb game with 20 points, six rebounds, and two assists on 6-of-8 shooting. He was part of a trio of Orediggers who stood out as
Ben Sonnefeld drained 16 points to go with seven boards and six assists, and
Michael Glen scored 15 with seven rebounds and four assists.
Both teams kept it close in the first half, with the Hardrockers in the lead as late as the 8:09 mark at 22-21. The Orediggers went on a 7-0 run after that capped by a Sullivan jumper, and a
Mason Baker three-pointer a few minutes later sparked a 9-4 stretch that helped the Orediggers get into halftime up 42-35.
After trading buckets to start the second half, Mines' decisive run came on a huge 23-3 effort as
Joe Miks scored eight points in that span; across the eight-minute run, the Orediggers drained 9-of-11 shots while holding SDSMT to 1-for-9. That blew a 47-42 lead into an insurmountable 70-45 advantage at the halfway point of the second, and the Orediggers didn't step off the gas from there as they hit their largest lead of the game in the final minute.
