#21 Mines Earns Senior Day Win Over CSU Pueblo

GOLDEN, Colo. - Reese McDermott's brace and a Zoe Sano penalty kick supported a sterling defensive effort as #21 Colorado School of Mines blanked CSU Pueblo, 3-0, on Senior Day at Stermole Stadium.

The Orediggers (12-2-3, 9-1-1 RMAC) did not get any help from around the league as first-place Colorado Mesa escaped Adams State with a 2-1 win on a late goal. Mines needs to win its regular-season finale at Regis on Wednesday, then have Mesa lose to Westminster, to claim the RMAC regular-season title outright.

Mines and the Thunderwolves (9-6-1, 8-2-1 RMAC) came into Sunday tied in the conference standings, but it was the Orediggers with the better performance as they outshot CSUP 20-6 and did not concede a shot on goal.

McDermott wasted little time in putting Mines ahead, tallying her first in the 15th minute with a superb right-footed volley from seven yards out off Emma Peterson's cross. She later made it 2-0 on a deflection of Emi Higgins' cross at 53:14, and then drew the penalty with a run to the box a minute and a half later. Sano took a clinical spot kick for her first career goal and the 3-0 lead.

NOTABLES
- Before the game, Mines honored its senior class of midfielders Alegra Aguayo, Emma Peterson, Hannah Rowan, and Zoe Sano, and goalkeeper Sierra Roth. The group has gone 57-5-10 record overall and 37-2-3 in RMAC play over the past four seasons.
- Sano's goal kept a streak of seniors scoring on Senior Day alive, with five straight dating back to 2017. In the spring it was Chaney Brugman, and looking back Brooke Stoermer and Haley Cole in 2017, Jennifer Kendall in 2018, and Giselle Sawaged in 2019 all scored on their senior days.
- McDermott pushed her team goals lead to seven with her second two-spot of the season. The freshman has scored six of her goals in league play this season.
- Peterson's assist was her fourth of the season, tying her with Landry Corbett for the team lead.
- Higgins' assist, her second of the year, extended her points streak to six consecutive matches. That's the fourth-longest streak in program history and longest since Emily Garnier's eight in the 2017 season.
- Sierra Roth was unbothered in her RMAC-leading eighth full shutout of the season as the Mines backline did not allow a shot on goal.
- Nicole Genis made seven saves for the Thunderwolves, who allowed three goals for only the second time this season and first in RMAC play.
- The Orediggers now have an 18-match home unbeaten streak (15-0-3) dating back to the 2019 season.
- Mines had 57 percent of the match possession, including 61 percent in the first half.
- The Orediggers led 8-2 on corners.
