LAKEWOOD, Colo. -
Eliot Edwards' early goal held up to give #18 Colorado School of Mines their third straight victory, 1-0, at Colorado Christian to open the RMAC schedule.
The Orediggers (3-0-1, 1-0-0 RMAC) outshot the Cougars (2-3-0, 0-1-0 RMAC) 16-8 and were in control virtually the entire match in frigid conditions at Trailblazer Stadium.
Edwards' goal was Mines' first and best chance of the game to that point, coming in the 12th minute.
Meg Zimmerman's run up the right resulted in a deflected save by Ireland VanDyke, and Edwards pounced on the loose ball inside the six, sending it back off VanDyke and spinning into the net.
Mines had to repel a string of three straight corners by the Cougars in the middle of the first half, but then pressed for a second goal before the break as a good chance by
Landry Corbett and a superb dropping free kick opportunity in the final minute by
Colleen Tyrrell were stopped.
CCU put three shots on goal in the second half but none seriously tested
Sierra Roth, who recorded Mines' third straight clean sheet with three saves.
