Second-Half Goals Lift Mines Over Adams State

GOLDEN, Colo. - Lauren Clingman's historic brace accounted for two of Colorado School of Mines' three second-half goals as they dispatched Adams State 3-0 in their RMAC opener.

The Orediggers (4-1-2, 1-0-0 RMAC) outshot the Grizzlies (1-4-0, 0-1-0 RMAC) by a healthy 20-2 margin, but didn't break through in the first half despite 10 chances. Clingman scored twice in a one-minute span in the second half, setting the Mines record for the quickest two goals.

Emma Peterson hit the crossbar on a corner header in the 18th minute for the Orediggers' best chance of the first half, and Colleen Tyrrell, Landry Corbett, and Reese McDermott also had shots on frame in the period.

Corbett's long throw delivered an interesting opening goal in the 52nd minute. Tossing the ball into the box, an Adams State defender attempted to head it clear but put it backwards toward the goal, and goalkeeper Ashley Beers was unable to handle it as it went in for the own goal.

Eliot Edwards rang the crossbar in the 59th minute, but Mines finally found the net the traditional way when Clingman picked out a free kick deflection from Jordan Barnhart near the top of the box and fired home for a 2-0 lead in the 73rd minute. Exactly 60 seconds later, Clingman tallied again after a beautiful 1-2-3 connection from McDermott and Peterson, setting the program record for the fastest consecutive goals by one player.

- Mines dominated the game with a season-high 71 percent of the possession.
